Lufthansa German Airlines have direct student pricing available at http://www.generationfly.com/ which bypasses markup that other other sites charge.
There are some good United/Lufthansa combo flights available currenlty, from $364rt if you play with the dates. Try www.bookingbuddy.com and http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego/calendar using the month-long search.

Look into student/under 25 deals, which I can't get anymore.
I get both an agent and look online. Don't forget to check the airline sites themselves. Often they're better even than the discount sites.
Since you're headed to Germany, Lufthansa is difficult to get good deals. If not a U.S. company, check out British Airways, KLM or Air France. If it's not to Frankfurt or Munich, you'll probably have to connect anyway.
I will also mention that it's super easy to catch the train in Frankfurt's airport so if connecting is super-expensive, don't rule it out!

Students tend to receive discounts for almost everything. I normally scoured over message boards at my college and found flyers for this website:
http://www.statravel.com/
This is another one I used back then:
http://www.studentuniverse.com/
STA has a small office in mid-town Manhattan and advertise amazing deals. They may have one near you. It couldn't hurt to check them out. Also, when seeking airfare/hotel I hear it is less expensive on Tuesdays and towards the end of the month - excess inventory.
Happy Travels!

I don't know where you go to school, but my college had an office for a student travel agency. It was called STA Travel. They specialize in student trips and rates.
But you can go to their site and see what you can do.
