Ok so last week i was in school & someone stole my $400 Tmobile phone. I called it as soon as I realized I didnt have it and the person transferd me to voicemail. i was really upset because that phone was a gift my boyfriend gave me & its a really nice phone.I filed a police report and did everything i had to do. I was about to pay my phone deductable but a friend from Tmobile called me monday & tracked it . They asked me when it was stolen & confirmed that this person started using my phone 30 min after my phone was stolen. i was givin the name and cellphone number of this person and i called the theft division and gave them an update on my case. after that i decided to call my school & see if they knew that student and they did, they called that person and told them they needed to turn the phone in. So should i continue to press charges against this person? The officer told me to call them as soon as I get the phone & let them know if i still wanted to press charges.

my intentions were to purse this until the end... but i guess I always think of other people even though they dont care about me.... I know what i have to do but sometimes you just need other peoples opinion before you take a step.. this is not something little .. this is big to me. so i cant just take it lightly ..and what better place to ask for peoples opinion then on here?

Yes you should follow through with charges.

This person will apparently not learn to stop stealing unless they are punished.

And do not feel bad for them. You are the victim, not them!

If they are a juvenile, this case will probably get them a court diversion program so that it will not be on their record... unless they have priors.

Either way........... follow up with the charges. They need to be punished or they will just keep doing things like this.

Of course you need to continue to press charges. This person is a thief and needs to learn a lesson. Just because you give back what was stolen doesnt make it OK. Lots of people went to the trouble to track this down and you were inconvenienced. If a person doesnt know to respect others property and cant tell the difference between right and wrong, its time that they get a lesson in ethical behavior. Perhaps this will stop them from escalating to bigger things than phones.

Yes, press charged. Thieving is a low thing to do and not continuing to press charges will not teach the thief a lesson.

My personal opinion is yes prosecute. I for one am fed up with people who think they can just take what they want because they want it and don't want to work for it. It is true if you let them get away with petty theft they will escalate to stealing cars with children in them or be willing to shoot and kill for a few dollars.

If you didn't intend to pursue this to the end, why did you bother making a report in the first place?

I think you should. People need to know that phone theft can be tracked and is punishable.
