For one thing, God is supposed to be timeless or outside of time. For him everything has already happened, so what sense does it make to say that times were different for him? They weren't. Plus you say he's unchanging.

For another thing, why would the "free will" of those who were violent in that time make God violent as well? Is his behavior dictated by his creations?

pay attention to the OT, was it really God who was violent, or man
even in this day and time, we need to clean house

Edit:
was it Man who was EVIL at that time, think about it, if God had found favor in more than just 1 family, would the flood had taken place?

It is written that God is slow to wrath. So? God isn't violent. He Is a God of order. Violence is disorder.

Before the flood, people were very violent & disorderly. So? God flooded the earth. And that was violent. But God washed the earth in the process.

Well, nothing has really changed since the old testament. They had Sampson, the big ole' martyr, we got Muhammad Ali, or Sam Sosa, or Kostya Tsu or bloody Zac De La Rocha. There's still fire and famine and wailing and gnashing of teeth (I'm good at gnashing). The only difference is that people now reckon that God didn't sanction it.

Pffft... If God exists, we can ask him or his chosen representative when the time comes for us to front up to the big velvet rope in the sky and plead our case to the heavenly door-guy. Seriously, it's my mate's birthday. Let me in. I'll change my shoes, just let me in.

No, His behavior ISN'T dictated by His Creations.

It was necessary for God to use such force, when the jews were moving into the promised land. It WAS a much more brutal time, & God used His power to show those barbaric nations that Israel WAS indeed His chosen people, & NOTHING was going to stand in the way of His will!

Funny that you dont believe in God but your avatar is a smiling devil...Do you believe in the devil ? You ask alot of Old Testiment questions .... Don't you know about the birth of Jesus Christ ? That would be New Testiment as predicted in the Old Testiment...If you are truely atheist, why bother with us,being ignorant Christians and all...It shouldn't matter to you one way or the other...Or like in old Saturday Night Live skits "IS IT SATAN" Get a grip... You truely make my faith stronger in God by your actions..Praise the Lord and God Bless you for your questions..

God still hates sin now as then. We are under a dispensation of grace now, so judgment isn't so swift. Everyone will answer to God someday for all their sins. Those who have accepted Jesus as Lord and savior will be judged at the judgment seat of Christ for their deeds, and those lost sinners will be judged at the Great White Thrown Judgment and their fate is hell. God made us and gave us a book to live by, if we refuse we pay.The bible says God doesn't wish for any to go to hell, but its our choice, by how we live. God sent His Son so that we could be forgiven, the rest is up to us.

Mostly because their vision of 'God is love' diminishes the true nature of God. While God does everything out of love for us, how that love manifests itself to our perspective may seem to be anything but.

ex. A misbehaving child rarely feels that his parents love him while he's being disciplined.

He is timeless. I have a hard time with Old Testament too. However God is rightous. I know you don't find my answer adequate. He still punishes, disciplines and forgives. That hasn't changed.

Don't forget that the Jewish faith is part of our following too. Oh, and the Muslim faith too. We all believe in the God of Abraham. Rephrase your question, and try again so that more people can offer you a true response.
