The Divinci Code is a work of fiction by a very imaginative author who asked himself "What if" and was able to put together a very interesting concept. It was never more than a novel Idea based on Dan Browns imagination. There is no work of fiction the should cause a Christian to question their faith in Christ. I enjoyed reading it and thought "what an imagination that guy has".

I really don't know if the official reaction of the Vatican can be qualified as furious. As far as I know there was at least one document that analyzed the historical data presented in the film and outlined all that made it, like the author always said, just fiction. The information was written for those who started to believe that the story is true.
I take it for what it is, like you say, a piece of science fiction.

I'm not (most decidedly NOT) a Christian, but I thought it was a fun read. I enjoyed Brown's Deception Point even more. It's fun to watch Xians froth at the mouth over anything. I remember when a movie came out in the seventies about a girl basketball player who fantasized about being the BVM when she got preggers. There were honest to god nuns picketing the Orson Welles Cinema in Cambridge, MA. I thought they could make better use of their time feeding the naked and clothing the hungry. I mean, does anyone think the BVM is incapable of safeguarding her own reputation?

I've always wondered this myself.
My favorite is when all the TV shows about the "real history of the davinci code" were on the History Channel.
I then read the "this book is a work of fiction" disclaimer and laughed myself silly for a few days.

You are correct. It is a work of fiction. The problem comes when people take all or part of it is historical truth.
Offended? No. Scandalized by the lack of historical fact? (i.e. that the Council of Nicea was responsible for which books made the cut as Holy Scripture!) Yeah...that's just wrong.

It may be a work of fiction, but FACTS about the church are deliberately twisted to fit Dan Brown's personal theology.

Ok work of Fiction. I liked the Movie and it was fun to follow it while knowing the Truth and how it was Twisted. It kinda made me an "Insider" in the Plot. John

Offended? No, I'm not offended. But if some author disgraced any other "religion" then they'd have a politically correct war on their hands, but because they're mocking a Christian God, it's all good. It infuriates me that the God of Christianity can be smeared through the dirt, but make fun of Allah, nooooo! It's almost considered a crime. Ridiculous!

I think it was brilliant work by the write, I read the whole book when it first came out and watched the movie also. My husband and i were impressed, it was well scripted, acted and presented.
I couldn't care less about the Vatican's opinion, i enjoyed it.

This Christian owns the book AND the movie, and I love both. It's fiction, nothing more nothing less.
The only problem I had with it was that some people took it as fact.
