Nikon and Canon are not compatible. They systems won't let you interchange their lenses on camera bodies. You'll have to sell or trade in your Canon for Nikkor lenses at a Camera Shop.
Try www.samys.com They buy photography equipment.

Either return the Nikon and buy a Canon or, as previously suggested, sell the Canon lenses on ebay.

You would have been better off buying a Canon digital body that was compatible with your lenses.
If you stick with the D40x, then I recommend buying Nikon compatible AF-S DX lenses. Nikon(obviously) and Sigma(get the HSM versions for 100% compatibility) make 100% compatible lenses.

Check in your local area to see if you have a camera store. Many times they deal in used equipment, and they will buy your Canon lenses from you, for cash, store credit, or trade on Nikon lenses.

no but if the lenses are in good condition you can sell them on ebay then use the money to buy good nikon one's on ebay as well. nikon and canon tend to run about the same so you should be able to see a good used canon and buy a good used nikon without any additional investment on your part.

What you are looking for is called an adapter ring. However the downside is that you won't be able to use the auto focus and maybe will have to set the aperture and shutter speed yourself. The cheapie ones cost about $18 on ebay with shipping. Your best bet is to sell your canon lenses and buy nikon. Nikon glass is higher quality anyway.

If you "just" bought the D40x take it back. Tell them it didn't feel right.
You'd be flushing your investment in lenses down the drain...
