The Lewis & Clark rifle is in the collection of Dr. Robert Beeman

>>Are pellet air-guns dangerous?<< Yes, they should be handled in the same "SAFE" manner that you would handle any gun.

My favorite air rifle has a MV of 850fps - As an experiment I put one steel can inside of another with a third in the middle filled with sand. At 40 yards the pellets penetrated all three cans and ended up in the sand.

Common FPS for a pellet gun is 1000-1200fps

Yeah, thats enough to kill you. It most likely will not kill you, but it certainly can. Shot in the eye, the neck, or the right way in the chest and you may very well loose your life.

Yes, they can and have killed. In Britain the law limits them to 12 ft.lbs and yet a two year old, Andrew Morton, was killed in Scotland. That's just the first one I found, there have been others.

In the past there were major caliber air weapons, those could easily bring down a deer so they'd have no problem killing a person. Lewis and Clark carried a .54 air gun with them and used it to "kill deer and amaze Indians". See the second link.

Yes they are. Here in Seattle there was a guy shot with a BB gun from a car. They are not toys! This guy was inches away from dying. From the PI

"The BB pellets hit Peter McKay, 46, with such impact that one penetrated his left lung, releasing air into his chest cavity, and the second just missed his aorta and spinal cord"

Jim Chapman has been hunting with air guns for years.
All the guns you see ARE AIR GUNS. You tell me if pellet
guns can't kill. By the way, these air guns are not the kind
you can buy at Wally world. These are specially made and modified for hunting BIG GAME.

With pointed pellets, you could potentially penetrate someones trachea. Not to mention taking out an eye!

Any projectile weapon is potentially dangerous. Treat an air rifle, bb gun, or pellet gun like you would a real firearm. It's good practice and developes good firearms safety.

Yes, they are capable of severly injuring and or killing someone. You should alway treat every weapon with respect, and handle it as if it was loaded, and never point a weapon at something you don't intend to destory.
