There's not enough information to make such a prediction.

Many people have answered the purpose is reproduction..

History has shown that there has been a gradual refinement

of the species.

Even a century ago a beautiful person was a rarity

There are now very many beautiful people

Also people were very small , now it is quite common for

men to be well over six feet tall and many womenatre over

five feet ten.

It would appear that the species is moving towards

perfection in physique, and hopefully our intelligence will

gradually solve the other problems we have.

Given infinite time all is possible.

Great Question.

I think there is a purpose in the Universe, and we can see it in the actions of living things. All life strives to multiply, and extend life. This is true for bacteria all the way on up to humans. It is one of the laws of nature. Given this, it is reasonable to believe that the purpose of life is to strive for a better future and more life. The universe just happens to be the place in which we exist. I am not convinced that the universe has the purpose of sustaining life, but because of its current characteristics, life exists, which has meaning and purpose.

There is no god who is interested in the happenings on this planet.

We are worse than termites - when they eat a home they know no better - we eat our home and we do know better.

Our only purpose is to procreate, just like every other living entity on the planet.
If our ego really needs to, each of us can make up pretend reasons for our existence even though it won't solve anything in the long run - we will still die.

What is purpose? Purpose implies intent, and there can be no intent without a person. A person did not create the universe.

Two things we don't know. One is if the universe has a purpose and two if it has we don't know what it is. Also if it has a purpose we are never going to know what it is so there is no point in worrying about it

In my opinion there is no need for the Universe to have a purpose and even if it did have one we puny human dust specks could never be aware of it. So I fall in the middle, giving both scenarios you outlined an equal likelihood.

The universe is without purpose. That's not say it isn't useful.

Your personal universe has whatever purpose you assign to it.

As for the universe as a whole, why does it need to have a purpose? It just exists, isn't that good enough for you?
