The information missing is:
Was this a first date?
Was this a casual date?
Or a date within what could be considered an on-going long relationship?
If the answer is a first or simply casual date---Run! Someone who is going to argue with you on the first or one of a few first dates about long term situations involving an already permanent fixture in your life....most likely has some serious control issues.
Early dates in a relationship should be about getting to know one another to see if a more serious relationship could develop. Marriage, kids, pets (position in the household), etc. aspects of marriage basically shouldn't be discussed to any serious degree on these dates.
Sounds like he is already planning a long-term future and doesn't even really know you. If your cat is part of your life, especially in a child-like manner, and he is ready to put him out, he's making his control issues known upfront.

While the choice to ever see him again is up to you, the fact that he is making demands on you to change your life before (from the sound of the message) you two are even a serious 'thing', is kind of a red flag.
The cat was there first, the guy has to be the one to compromise. I would never stay with a guy who told me I needed to put my cats in danger for his comfort. Think of it this way: If you conceded, and made your cat stay outside all of the time, then your cat got poisoned, killed by a dog, or run over by a car, would you resent him for it? I sure as heck would.
Please just think it over carefully; but if I were you, I'd be bolting if some guy told me that.
Good luck; I hope this helps you make your decision :).

If a date said that to me, I would be disinclined to move in with him/see him again. People must recognize the importance of pets. I have a completely indoor cat and if I suddenly tried to tell her she had to stay outside she would cry! I mean she is like my baby. Oh well, that will never happen.

You have not provided enough information for me to properly answer your question.
Most indoor cats that are very used to it are happy inside and will not even try to go outside unless the door is open for extended periods of time. Are you saying that your cat tries to get out? Are you saying your boyfriend likes to leave the door open for long periods? I mean these are things you should have mentioned in your question. If your boyfriend does not leave the door open for extended periods and your cat is not prone to try to go outside then I see no problem... Your cat will be fine.

Why would he move in with you? What about vice versa. An indoor cat can't become an outdoor cat after seven years. See what happens, or if he was just making conversation.

You can't make your indoor cat become an outdoor cat all of a sudden. Im sure that would be quite frightning for your cat to get thrown into the outside world all of a sudden.

if he really likes u he will compromise and let the cat stay indoors. if he don't then get rid of him(the man0. ur cat has been with u for 7 years and i'm sure he/she is like a child to u. so either have him allow the cat to stay, or get rid of the man. hope this helps.

Nobody has the right to change how you interact with an animal you own, nobody. If he insists, show him the door, he simply has no respect for how you do things.
She would most likely not go far outside if you went out with her, and soon dash back inside again. It is just unsupervised that she would not necessarily do that. Seven years later outside has become a scary place, loud and unfamiliar.

Please don't send the cat outside. You have been a very responsible pet owner by keeping her inside. Outdoor cats are susceptible to disease, injury and premature death that indoor cats may not get exposed to. If this man is detemined to change this aspect of your life, what else will he want to change. Be careful, use your head and keep the kitty inside.

My boyfriend HATED cats before he met me. He didn't like to come over because of the cat. Eventually he came around and even started bringing little treats and toys for my cat, Tension.
Now we live together and have compromised. I moved my cat and dog and myself to his apartment, but I'm the only one who gets to sleep in his bed.
I joke from time to time that he is a "cat person" now (Telltale signs: talking to the cat and letting him follow him into the bathroom and sit on his clean pile of laundry) He says he's not a cat person, he's a Tension person.
Moral of the story: give him a chance to fall in love with you and your pets.
