Well i drop off my daughter to school every morning. I have to drive down the road to a stop sign where kids are waiting for their bus, (they r middle school kids)..anyway I have to make a complete stop and check both sides to check for cars before I make my run for it. Well today as I was getting back home, they were still there, I have to go around them cause they are on the corner. It may seem like I'm going fast as I'm entering but I'm not. The girl yelled out "slow down"..If I was going so damn fast, how was I able to catch that, with my radio on? I was able to make a complete stop cause I heard it so clearly, I looked back and everyone had their head down like nothing happened. I was not going 15 or 20 mph either, i'm not gonna lie, i don't have blinking lights around me telling me to do so, I think I was doing maybe 30 or 35..and believe me others drive a lot faster in that small little road. it just made me so mad, being that i'm pregnant too i guess.

Don't worry about the other mom, worry about your driving! You should always go slow when there are kids around...as a mother you should know that kids are always jostling each other around...pushing or shoving...one of them could get pushed in front of you in a heartbeat!

It does not matter what other people do in going faster on a 'little road'...you cannot control their actions, only yours and it shouldn't take flashing lights to tell you to go slower around kids on a corner.

Do you want someone driving 30-35 mph when your daughters are standing on the corner waiting for the bus??? I think not because you sound like you might be a good mom.

Good luck on the new baby!

Don't go that fast around a school. It's illegal and you are pregnant and have a child in the car too. Of course you have to stop at the stop sign. It's the law. What is the posted speed limit? You should be doing the speed limit and obeying all laws. Pedestrians have the right of way. It shouldn't matter what others are doing. Just worry about what you are doing to avoid a ticket or an accident. I know many kids like to linger around the road...but better safe than sorry. I think you need to not only slow the car down, but your life too. I think you are being overly sensitive and that could be due to the pregnancy. try to be calm about this and think rationally. Going a little slower isn't the end of the world. The whole world wants to go fast and get nowhere...why?

What is the speed limit along the road where the kids are waiting for the school bus?

I would think that if it is in a residential neighborhood that it should be no more than 25 mph, while if it is in a commercial area, no more than 35 mph.

Where the kids are waiting for the school bus, are they on the sidewalk all the way up to the edge where the traffic passes by, or are they back aways with a saftey margin? If there is no safety margin, or if they are actually standing in the street, I would get with the school and the school bus company to see what can be done to fix this safety hazard.

If it seems to you that other motorists are being reckless in the vicinity of the school bus stop, then you need to report to the police ... suggest that they setup a radar speed trap to apprehend people who are being careless about the children's lives.

While the school busses themselves are the safest way to travel to and from school, a lot of kids get killed and injured in association with getting onto a school bus, waiting for a school bus, or soon after getting off of one.

Also check out the highway transportation tests of school bus accidents ... for example, they have dummies wearing ordinary seat belts, not shoulder harnesses, with different distances to seats of different sizes (heights) in front ... there are some combinations that cause the kids to get their necks broke when an accident jack knifes their heads into the seat in front.

Think of it this way. What if it were your daughter, waiting on that corner, while another car came past at 30 to 35 mph?

And while you are thinking about this, remember, you are not the only one who has a "standard" about what is a safe speed at this intersection. That middle school girl has her standard and you have yours. Maybe yours is more accurate, and maybe not.

But allow me to share a statistic with you, published by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety: 80% of American drivers think they drive better than 50% of other drivers. This cannot, obviously be true, but it does mean that most of us don't drive as good as we think we do.

Just take care. There is a reason for school zone speed limits, and, even if that bus stop was not in a school zone, perhaps those schoolchildren deserve a little consideration for their safety. They are NOT, yet, adults and may still make the unsafe decisions a child makes, regarding traffic safety.
