That is a very good question but young people are bad drivers also. The elderly arent driving with a cell phone to their ear, text messaging while they drive or have a bunch of friends in the car with loud music on, but their eyesight and reflexes are deminished with age. Just this Saturday, there was a 93 year old lady driving her car on the highway (65 MPH) in Kansas when she ran a stoplight and plowed into the side of a truck. (We drove by the scene of the accident on our way out of town). She died at the scene and the man driving the truck is in critical condition. It is sad for everyone involved.

Many people are bad drivers, not just the elderly. "What good for the goose is good for the gander", as they say. I been saying for years people should ALL have to re-test diving skills every so many years. I not argue the time, maybe every 10 years?
It easy to lay the obligation on a certain age group, but, read the statistics on who die most in car accidents. I not sure myself.

That's an unfair statement. Many young drivers are no better than the elderly. Many elderly drivers are better than teenagers. I agree they should be tested as their perception and reaction times dim with age, but don't go around making generalized assertions like that.

BEFORE YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER READ THIS..

One out of 10 children ages 12 and 13 uses alcohol at least once a month.

In a single year, 522 children under age 14 were arrested for driving while intoxicated, (113 of them were under 10 years old).

70 percent of all teenagers drink alcohol.

60 percent of all teen deaths in car accidents are alcohol-related.

I think some of these folks have macular degeneration and they just don't see as well as they use to.

So respect your elders and cut them some slack. :)

I live in a small village where there are alot of old people and I see this everyday. I'd rather have the old people around than the gangsta types.

Its these morons on cell phones that drive who don't know what road they are on, where they are at, where they are going, what speed they are doing, that irritate me.

I don't know how old you are, but you are only getting older. Have respect for the elderly. Who is going to go and get your groceries and run your errands when you get older??? Are you just going to admit yourself into an old folks home at the age of 60?? Shut your mouth and find a meaningful question to ask on Yahoo....

Aggressive ticketing on the road for any age.

How do we stop young drivers from speeding and weaving in traffic?

How do we stop drunks at any age?

How do we stop tailgaters and cell phone use?

It goes on and on.

A moving violation ticket should come with a retest.

what age do you consider old-lousy drivers seem to come in all ages. The person that made an illegal u-turn that hit my daughter's car was 17 in a brand new lexus. Her parent's bought it for her.
