This is after all the place to come to ASK questions
Why should people be subjected to a torrent of abuse when all they are asking for is a little advice?
Look at the abuse this person got by a couple of people!

I completely understand that people are entitled to their opinons and thats fine!
But there is no need for the level of abuse that some people recieve, especially if they ask breeding related questions
like I said this a place to ask questions

Rude is in the eye of the beholder.
Half the time I make someone mad no matter what I do. I can't help it. I'm not losing sleep. Besides, who the heck am I anway? A dog head on this site.
In your example - There were some really good answers and some not so good ones.
Take it with a grain of salt. I'll get thumbs down for answering this way. I'm not being rude.
For those who take the time to follow my answers, they know me and know I'm not intentionally rude to anyone. They also know how other long time people who answer feel on certain subjects. It's pretty much common knowledge if you are here for over a week. You can figure out who stands where. It's called personal integrity. I like that about most of these people (even the ones I REALLY don't like. At least they have a stance on things).
We all have personalities. Just like in real life. And the funny thing is, I'd like some of these people in real life, and some I wouldn't. I'd respect some of them and others I wouldn't. But I'd do the same thing I would in real life if they bugged me, I'd just ignore them and get on with my life.

I was just about to post a question about the same thing. As a new owner of a puppy I was wondering if it is compulsory to become what I call a "dog snob" Some people are really stuck up about about being a dog owner, it amazes me.
I posted a question last week before I bought my pup regarding pedigree documentation and the first answer gave me a spiteful answer and presumed that just because I needed advice about this, it meant I was buying from a "puppy miller" and basically it was people like me that encourage such practices. This assumption came about because I said I was buying a from a private breeder and would be seeing the litter with mother and all the paperwork. So work that one out!! Then there's the other camp that cane you for buying a dog when you should be re-homing according to their gospel. Get over yourselves, it's just not necessary, owners of other pets aren't like it.

While of course this is a place to be asking questions it's not the place to be asking questions when a dog is either obviously very ill or about breeding.
Medical questions need to be answered by a vet. While there maybe many very knowledgable people who answer here there are also some that give downright dangerous medical advice and sign off as being a vet or vet tech. Now I know for sure there is one true vet that comes here and he has been confirmed by YA: http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=Al6ZOUVrEk3jWOmARiFdmQ_sy6IX;_ylv=3?show=HVt3LTnsaa but the rest who claim to be vets often give very bad advice.
There are also a couple of vet techs that I believe to be true too http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=Al6ZOUVrEk3jWOmARiFdmQ_sy6IX;_ylv=3?show=krXQaZAfaa
http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=Al6ZOUVrEk3jWOmARiFdmQ_sy6IX;_ylv=3?show=OgVmHwW6aa both have given very knowledgable answers. Many of the others who calim the same give answers as if they are in grade school although some I am inclined to believe may well be true. Whatever if a dog is sick it goes to the vet.
Breeding should only ever be undertaken with a personal mentor. Not someone who claims to know everything about breeding and then gives very bad advice on the subject. yes there are many wonderful breeders here, but that's not enough. If you have a real living mentor with you as you should for at least your first few litters you know you have someone who has walked your path and can help you deal with any situation that may come up instead of maybe taking the advice of a 13 year old who is pretending to be a breeder which again often happens her. Anyone who comes to YA and does not know the first thing about breeding should not be even thinking if putting 2 dogs together until they have learned the right way from someone in person.
Anyone who cares bout animals is going to get a little upset when someone comes along and says that their dog is about 2 months pregnant. How long are dogs pregnant for. Should this not have been learned before you even looked for a mate not when she only has a day or 2 until the birth.
People also get upset when someone says they dog is pooping blood and they either won't take their dog to the vet or can't for several days. you owe it to your animal to get it the medical care it needs as you would if it was your child. Neglect will cause people to become upset. More than once I have seen people with that attitude get a wake up call by a few stern answers and actually let those people know it's because of them their dog has made it. The others well they never really wanted answers just for someone to say it was okay to leave a dog bleeding for a week.
That said there is no need for anyone to be rude. Some people like myself can get a little passionate about certain things when lives are at risk which they often are, but there is no need to be rude I agree. I have only ever been knowingly rude once and man I think if you had of seen what they posted you too would have been rude.
There is often fault on the part of the asker and some of the answerers. If a question is not clearly asked people can often missunderstand. Some questions are only asked to get the tails up of those they know will bite. Some people only come to post nasty replies or to give thumbs down to the good answers or even all answers for some unknown reason. It's just the way it is in public forums especially when it is not moderated by unbiased people. There are many faults right now in YA that need to be sorted out, but not by the community as that method has been proved many times of late to be very flawed.
The basic questions that should be asked here such as training, how to clip nails, where to find good breeders, how to deal with a loss etc usually are answered the way they should be with respect. It's the questions that should only really be asked of a professional that I have seen that often causes problems.
It's up to the asker to try and work out the good advice from the bad. That's why I don;t like the thumbs up/down as they can at times be very misleading.

I wondered about that too.
Stick around and you'll see that SOME people deserve the abuse they get, but overall I feel that there is a bit too much rudeness on here. The person on that question seemed interested in how to breed dogs PROPERLY. When there are so many CKCS bred by puppy millers in the UK I found it refreshing that somebody seemed to care about the dogs.
That person didn't deserve the abuse they got IMO.
I must admit I found it amusing that two of the people that replied showed themselves up to be clueless - ie - the one who said the KC was not a recognised registry - and the one who spent their entire post claiming that he shouldn't breed dogs because he couldn't spell. Silly enough reasoning even without the fact he'd spelled the word correctly anyway!!

It is ridiculous. I really like the one comment about how this is not the place for answers....riiiiight....I thought this was Yahoo answers.
So it looks like somebody that is doing the right thing in real life, has the network where they live, yet they can't ask a simple question on here for input from even more people?
Gaining knowledge means making use of any and all tools available, even the internet. Just because somebody asks a question about breeding, that does not mean they should never do it--yes there are many that ask stupid questions and obviously have much to learn, but this person does not seem to fit that category. The year is 2007. The internet is literally everywhere. Shame on somebody for using it? I thought YA means Yahoo Answers, not Yahoo Abuse...

I agree. When someone answers a question, it should be informed, sensitive and accurate. Or indicate that it is YOUR OPINION, so someone doesn't take your advice as fact!!
as for the people who leave filth & trash as 'advice' they will always be here. It says A LOT about the person who left it!!
How immature the are
How selfish they are
How attention seeking they are
How twisted they are
How neglected they feel
How deprived they are/feel
It says a lot about how inadequate they feel. A lot if it is just advertisement of their own inadequacies, and low self-esteem.
So ignore them, don't give them the attention they are after, and report the serious abuse of the site. Most of these people do it because as a community, we let them by not reporting them and giving them attention for it.
I am new to YA and I love it! I am grateful for the sound advice I get and I ignore the bad. (AFTER I GIVE A LOW RATING!) *lol* Or report what I believe to be abuse, or negative advice that can harm someone.
I hope you don't take my answer as an insult because it isn't meant to be. I just wanted to say what was on my mind and what I believe is the trouble with the people who {have} to leave negative comments, that are not even answers to the question asked.
HUGGZ!

Just went back for a look and guess what! I got a thumbs down!
All I did was give him a correct answer! Guess I should have told him NOT TO DO IT!
Obviously some breeding has to take place or the breeds will die out! Or do these people think pups magically appear?
I'm against back yard breeding and puppy mills and strongly advise people not to breed unless they obviously know what they are doing (which he does) but I don't feel the need to personally abuse them!
What purpose does it serve anyway! I don't think it makes people anything but more determined to do what they want!

I didn't even answer his question. This guy seems to be doing the right thing, but a question like this should be asked to people that he has met while showing. You have the animal rights people that say to spay and neuter everything. All of my dogs are intact, and for a reason. They can yell spay and neuter all they want, but I don't listen to them. He would be better off getting advise from show people, not from some of the idiots here. A lot of us know an awful lot about dogs, breeding and showing. You can see I just posted an answer about a terrible dog fight I had yesterday. There was a high and mighty spay/neuter person that decided to put their 2 cents in. Doesn't bother me.

honestly it is annoying the way people rant on here. i usually try to just answer the questions asked without nagging too much unless the person is making a huge mistake. some people who seem completely clueless about breeding and don't even want to take the time to learn and do it right, especially young kids i do often times recommend they get their dog fixed. people are often berated and they give advice about things they don't know anything about.
i once asked about a labrador husky for my friend who was interested in one. i didn't know much so i asked on here and and i kept getting people telling me not to buy mutts and why was i helping backyard breeders. well if they knew ANYTHING then they would've know it is in fact a purebred dog. especially when i specifically asked people with prior knowledge about the breed. i also love how everyone answers the exact same with GO TO THE VET. even if the question is, hey i think my dog just sneezed. omg go to the vet! or if the vet says it's ok then it is...psh what a load of crap.
when someone asks about breeders or puppies available it's always go get a shelter dog. as someone with both breeder bought and rescued dogs i know what it's like to help a dog out but you don't have to make people feel bad for not wanting a shelter dog for whatever that reason may be. the funny thing is a lot of people who say go get a shelter dog don't even have shelter dogs!

I agree with you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but people should not be slagged for asking what others may think is a silly question. However, some questions are a bit too silly and I tend not to grace them with an answer in case I offend someone
