Watch how they act and speak to other people. By their fruits they are known.

Around here, everyone assumes you're Christian unless proven otherwise. They don't even say "I'm a Christian" but go straight to the denomination and how many members of the clergy they know or are related to. There are a few atheists here, but they are mostly at the community college and are 18-20 years old. You wouldn't believe the verbal conniptions I've had to engage in to get out of being dragged to this church or the other or declaring my faith without favoring one or another denomination. It isn't hard to tell a Christian in these parts. There is a 99% chance that anyone I meet here is a Christian. The hard part is determining who is a Fundie who will proselytize you in the gym locker room and who will leave you alone.

Edit: by "around here," I mean the small Tennessee town I live near.

If the person's a REAL Christian...you'll be able to tell. It may take knowing them a long time...but over time, their actions will make it clear.
If they're always telling you they're a Christian, more than likely they're not a REAL one...but just one of those "I'm better than you" types.

I personally cannot tell. I have known and met many people that I thought were, or they had claimed to be Christians... then low and behold suprised me with their actions. On the flip side, I have known and met people who are very kind, generous, loving and just all around good people who say they do not believe.

Is this supposed to be like "Gaydar," when you can tell someone is gay even if they are not flamboyant? I also suppose you don't mean looking to see if they are wearing a cross or somesuch identifying accoutrement.

The answer is no. My wife, a wonderful, kind and generous woman is often thought to be Christian by other Christians, was born a Jew, and is as atheist as a person can be.

Of course. Many times during conversation they will refer to a church group or bible group they belong to. Or they will thank Jesus for everything.
Plus, like in India, over 80% of the population is Hindu. Here in the west, chances of meeting a jesus following group is over 90%. It involves Catholics and Christians.

Lots of ways: Hanging outside abortion clinics and harassing poor women. Mouthing off fascist, right wing views, occasionally steering close to racism. Never doing any charity work but constantly saying that's what people they know do. Looking perplexed when an Atheist tells them they do charity work. Being generally unpleasant and impolite. But by far the best way to tell if a person is christian is when they give thumbs down on perfectly good, educated and researched answers with good reputable links provided just because it doesn't tie in with their backwards beliefs.

Yes, sometimes I can. They have a smile on their face and they will look you right in the eyes. If you sneeze they will say "God bless you." Most Christians are not the Bible thumping hateful monsters that some people claiming to be an Atheist claim we are here on Yahoo answers. The Christians I know are kind and loving.

Um, you can tell if they are wearing a cross, or if I am driving by a church on a Sunday, I can guarantee, they would be Christians...

But, that is just my opinion...

Well if they're a GENUINE Christian, not just "claim" to be, it's just something about their presence that captures you, something different. Then when they mention it, it makes sense. Also, their words tend to be filled with depth and wisdom. Remember, this is a genuine Christian, who is not easy to find nowadays, sadly. That's from my experience.
