PaulCyp,
What the Bible makes clear is that the works which are done are to God's credit. I am sorry that Catholics believe otherwise. The works which have eternal implications are those done by God's Spirit through us. All others will be burned away:
1 Corinthians 3:10-15
10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

We kid ourselves into thinking . .

that we can know what is right in good, and then act upon our own accord, replacing things that are spiritual with things that we decide are spiritual. I am afraid that many Catholics never think of the lack of spirituality they endure because of the traditions of the Catholic church and the endless streams of doctrine that has been a burden on those in your church! How I hope that God collapses the foundation of misunderstanding perpetrated in the Roman Catholic Church. I love some who I know who are RC's. I don't want them to be so close to salvation, but emit no light from the Spirit of the Living God.

You simply believe that Jesus, who is God, died for your sins on the cross and rose again. You will know from God that you are saved and that your sins are forgiven. Works cannot save, and joining works and faith doesn't save. Faith alone in this about Jesus is what saves, and that is by God's grace.

Actually the Holy Spirit does it. We just make a decision to accept and confess it.

For by grace are ye saved through faith. You believe Jesus is the Son of God who died for the sins of the world and that he was raised from the grave 3 days later.

You need to acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of a Savior. Repent of your sins and accept Christ as your Savior. This is the new birth. Like your physical birth, it is the beginning of a new life. From there you need to be spiritually fed by praying, reading the Bible and fellowshipping with other believers.

We are saved by grace through faith, not of ourselves, it is the gift from God, not of works lest any man boast. Ep.2:8

We do nothing, except receive it and we will receive it, because His grace is irresistible. When He comes and says "follow me" we will come every time, salvation is of The Lord, we have nothing to do with it. Praise His name.

oh that is a good question .. we all are sinners . we all have did what we wanted to do with no thought of wether GOD APPROVED OR ANYONE ELSE.. JESUS died for us that while we still be sinners HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR PLACE..
THE gospel truth IS THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT leads us to REPENT AND TO GUIDE US IN TRUTH JOHN 16TH CHAPTER . O0UR PART IS EASY OR HARD without divine help. repent of sin and important forsake it . some are sorry but not sorry enough to stop!! / GODS law 1 john 3,v 4 points out sin.. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ARE THEY THAT SHOW US WHAT SIN IS ONLY.. we come to JESUS STAINED AND GUILTY OF VIOLATING THESE commandments , he said in matthews GOSPEL THAT WE WERE TO BE TAUGHT FIRST just what sin is . .. once we see our sin and know it caused OUR CREATOR to die so we could have life we are sorryful for our sins and want to repent and turn from our own wickedness.. WE THEN ARE BATIZED AS AN OUTWARD ACT OF FAITH SYMBOLIZING OUR DESIRE for others to see our new life.
ITS THEN that JESUS through the HOLY SPIRIT starts turning our life around , IT is a life long process of growth that continues throughout our life IF , IOF we will allow it .. noone can force u to love GOD or to stay with HIM if u dont want to. . ultimately its our choice JESUS LOVES US SOO MUCH HE GRANTS US FREE WILL. .. MEN AND LADIES HAVE U EVER BEEN REJECTED??
JESUS isaiah tells us HE was despised and rejected yet HE still loved us enough to die for me and u . and still waits for us to acknowledge HIM . .. when a baby starts to walk does it fall down?.. HEHEHE ,, of course and so will we but dont give up , wipe yourself off and ask for help TO LIVE the life by faith ,, . JESUS said i will never leave or forsake u .. the problem arises when we believe the devil and quit trying . ..
you will need help so be responsible dont hang out with those who dont want JESUS fully in their life. ohh you have so many ministers that areso persuasive in their talk . FIND a church that follows the ten commandments not as a means of salvation but because out of love to GOD u desire to please him .> mj

There are lots of people here on this site that look around at the world and talk about how terrible it is. Usually in the form of 'look at those evil people who did this... they are so despicable!!! etc. etc.'
Every now and then you have a person who comes to the conclusion that they themselves are part of the problem, and not part of the solution. When a person is honest enough to look at themselves and say, 'you know what? I'm as bad as all those people I spend my time accusing. I don't give to charity, I don't help people. I'm selfish, I'm lazy, I'm dishonest, or on drugs or in bad and unhealthy relationships. And I'm not going to lie any more and say that it's someone else's fault. It's me.'

At that point they start looking for help. Then they find out about Jesus, how He died for the Sins of the World, and for the first time in their life, that makes sense to them. They realize that the world is full of Sin, and that they are full of Sin. They reach that point where they become aware of the awful dilemma the World puts them in, and at the same time become aware of the solution God provided long ago. At that point they are ready for Salvation.

A lot of people, especially non-believers think prayer is an insubstantial thing. I think people would feel differently about it if they realized that by means of prayer the dead have been raised, the seas parted, lightning called from the sky and the wounded and sickly saved from death. Prayer is the most potentially powerful act in human experience. When you pray you are connecting to God, and to God's power.
When the Sinner prays he or she connects to God's power to forgive them for their sins, transform them from who they are into who they can be.
'Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. My sins are offensive to me. I submit myself totally and unreservedly to You. Do with me what thou wilt. I am yours.'
And Jesus responds. He sees us with all of our faults, and chooses us anyway; to be a part of this amazing cause— the redemption of Humanity. That's Grace. God accepting us, warts and all, seeing past what we are, to what we can be in Him.

Instructions are in the Bible, Romans 10:9

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. "

We are saved by grace alone but not through faith alone. The Bible makes that perfectly clear. The Bible repeatedly emphasizes both faith and works as essential means of accepting the free gift of salvation. We can't earn salvation by doing good works, and we can't earn salvation by believing. We can only accept salvation from the One Who made it possible, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Faith and works of Christian charity are the two essential means of accepting that freely offered gift. Neither faith nor works of themselves can save us, but lack of either one can prevent us from being saved.

These people who say faith alone are sadly mistaken. The only time "faith alone" is in the Bible is in James where it says we are not saved by faith alone. Also, if you look at how Christ will judge, Matthew 25:32-46, you will see Jesus is not judging on faith alone.

32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 “Then they also will answer Him,[a] saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
