first thing you need to understand is a miniature chi has a very small bladder so she will need to be let out frequently and you have to be consistent always let her out at the same time and she will learn to hold it. Do not scold when she has a mishap but reward with praise when she goes outside. Lastly you will need to get some Nature's Miracle to clean up any carpet stains you have so she doesn't smell it and want to go there. I potty trained my 5 lb yorkie like this and he was a rescue I got when he was a year old and had never been housebroken.

There is no such thing as a Mini Chihuahua since Chihuahuas weigh between 1.5lbs for the show stock and 6lbs for the larger pets. The smaller the dog the harder to housebreak and many wee Chis are never housebroken, many people resort to pads. My g/f's 1.5lb female Chihuahuha was never housebroken and she justs potties in the house despite the door being open most of the day. PM or Petstore dogs of any breed are very difficult if not impossible to housebreak and the basic reason behind a dog being housebroken is that a dog chooses not to soil it's living space. So where a GSD can consider an entire house it's living space a toy breed will only consider keeping a room clean as it's "duty". I had a femle MinPin who came from a well known "reputable" breeder of Champion show dogs and she had obviously been brought up in PetStore type surroundings, she was not clean in her crate until 5 yrs old. For a long time she would not potty outside she would hold it and go inside.

Ahh Chihuaha's, I have two...and potty training is hard for these guys.
Yes they have small bladders, so they do need to go quite frequently, and as alot of people know, chihuahuas are INFAMOUS, for house soiling.
Here is the problem, alot of time chihuahuas, even with proper potty training, will still house soil, especially at night when no one is available to take the outside, they simply can't hold it anymore.

Some people may not agree with my method, but this is however how I trained my dogs and how I kept them from using the bathroom on our carpet.

Try using a puppy pad, they are potty training aids that have a scent that makes the pup want to potty on it.
If your dog has already gotten in the habit of using the restroom in a specific area of your home, then start by placing the pad there.

Then daily, move the pad a little closer to the back door, or whatever door it is you want them to go outside at to use the bathroom.
Once its there, when you see your dog sniffing around or hanging around that area, you will know what they are needing to do, and voila, pick them up and put them outside.

Do this for a little while and when you feel the dog is used to going there for potty time, remove the pad.
This is how I did it, and it works for me.
I still do however, use a potty pad at night when I am asleep.
I put it by the backdoor when I go to bed, so that way when my little chihuahua can't hold her little bladder anymore, there is a safegaurd for the carpet ready.

Good luck!

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMVB3

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

This may seem funny but try a puppy litter box. Its not like a cat litter box. The litter is more like little balls of newspaper. When out maltese/shitzu was little she kept peeing in her cage. the vet said this was because she thought this was her potty area and to get a litter box. We did and we put the litter box inthe cage with her for about 2-3 months and then removed it. She never went potty in there or the house ever again. Also you may want to try giving the dog treats as soon as she goes potty this means standing out side watching your puppy and when she goes give her a treat and tellher good girl go potty outside.

What is a miniature chihuahua? No such thing unless it is the runt. I would guess you got it from a backyard breeder that put no research into the breeding.

Look up different ways on the internet to housebreak your dog and pick what you think is most appropriate for your situation.

Since she is such a small dog, you will need to take her outdoors almost every hour, even at night. Give her treats and rewards. Until her bladder develops and she can hold it longer, you will just need to be patient.

If you can not possibly take her out that frequently, put puppy pads in an area of your house. If you forget to take her out, at least your floors will be protected.
