That's an interesting story, actually. It appears this investigation is trying to set a precedent for requiring churches to hand over financial information to a US Senate committee. Some of the churches being investigated say this is a dangerous precedent that "affects the privacy of every community church" in the nation. I would have thought that such an investigation would be conducted through the IRS, not a Senate committee. It will take time to determine exactly what implications the nature of this investigation has. It was prompted by apparent improper charges of luxury items on the part of the organizations, but the interesting part is that this is a US Senate operation and not an IRS investigation.
All that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if financial misconduct was proven in most or all cases, but the method by which it is being conducted is certainly unorthodox. I don't think it has anything to do with whether or not the chief investigator is Republican or not, either. It remains to be seen what long-reaching effects this will have on church-state intermixing.

I'm sorry, but what, exactly, did "they" do?
The government is asking them for records. There have been no allegations of wrong-doing at this point.
Personally, I don't like most of these people, but nobody has alleged that they have done anything wrong. It is a pure and simple dirt-digging campaign, though one likely to prove that there is some dirt.
Unless ordered by a court, these people shouldn't be required to turn over any records. The Senate is not part of the justice department, and it is not their job to investigate private organizations. Their job is to make law, not to enforce it. This is simply a senator trying to puff himself up and overstepping his authority.

I think the teachers mentioned in the brief notice are misguided and should be ignored in their "preaching" to the extent that they focus on a distorted presentation of the Faith.
That said, I don't know that Congress has a legitimate role in such an investigation, absent clear evidence of fraud. Expoiting the weakenesses and foibles of a given set of people is wrong, but as an American, I have "problems" with a governmental investigation of religious belief.

They're having a review of their finances. Okay, that is a good thing and that doesn't mean they are doing anything wrong.
I thought we were "innocent until proven guilty" in this country?
Being investigated doesn't PROVE anything other than that they are being investigated.

Anyone with idle time, could've figured EVERY one of these antichrists out. The article didn't say they were caught in fraud, unless I read it wrong, but NONE of these false prophets teach the truth of God.
None of these people are fit to even teach Sunday school in my opinion.

I thought they weren't about the money...wait, that is all they are after.
I wonder how many of them don't actually believe, but figured they could make a boat load of money off of the gullible?
