I was taught, when younger, that God created the world.

But in John 1:3 it says Jesus made everything.

He was the master builder of God and God is the architect.

read the book of Proverbs 8:22-30 "Jehovah himself produced me as the beginning of his way, the earliest of his achievements of long ago.
23 From time indefinite I was installed, from the start, from times earlier than the earth.
24 When there were no watery deeps I was brought forth as with labor pains, when there were no springs heavily charged with water.
25 Before the mountains themselves had been settled down, ahead of the hills, I was brought forth as with labor pains,
26 when as yet he had not made the earth and the open spaces and the first part of the dust masses of the productive land.
27 When he prepared the heavens I was there; when he decreed a circle upon the face of the watery deep,
28 when he made firm the cloud masses above, when he caused the fountains of the watery deep to be strong,
29 when he set for the sea his decree that the waters themselves should not pass beyond his order, when he decreed the foundations of the earth,
30 then I came to be beside him as a master worker, and I came to be the one he was specially fond of day by day, I being glad before him all the time,
31 being glad at the productive land of his earth, and the things I was fond of were with the sons of men.

Colossians 1:15-16 "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation;
16 because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him.

The answer is both. God the Father put Jesus in charge of creating this world. Thus, John reported correctly that God, by the power of His word, meaning Jesus, created this world and everything thereon. This earth is Christ's because He has been the Lord and creator of it from the beginning, having done so under direction from the Father. Thus, both can be called God and Father.

If you are a Christian, at least a trinitarian Christian, you'll believe that God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus are one, so everything that came to be came about by God, who is all three. Jesus is God, so it came to be by him as well.

If you are not an orthodox trinitarian Christian (such as a Mormon), the Gospel of John can give you problems. (Unless you read the Joseph Smith Translation). I'm not sure what Oneness Pentecostals teach on this subject.

Most non-Christian faiths and atheists don't really have a problem in this area. It takes more than that to make our head hurt.

Jesus is the image of God. I mean, if you had seen Jesus, you had seen God. No one has ever seen God but Jesus Christ has revealed Him to us. So Jesus is the visible form of God. Here is the mystery of Trinity lies. Only the HOLY Spirit can give you His wisdom to understand this. So Jesus is the one who created the Heavens and the Earth. Jesus means, He is the Almighty God.
Col 1:13-17
13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

Jesus -the firstborn spirit Son was used by his Father in the creation of all other things. (Joh 1:3; Col 1:16, 17) This would include the millions of other spirit sons of Jehovah God's heavenly family (Da 7:9, 10; Re 5:11), as well as the physical universe and the creatures originally produced within it.

Logically, it was to this firstborn Son that Jehovah said: "Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness." (Ge 1:26) All these other created things were not only created "through him" but also "for him," as God's Firstborn and the "heir of all things."-Col 1:16; Heb 1:2.

Hmm...I've always believe that God made the universe but Jesus was his son. Meh I still believe that God made it and Jesus was his son. There are some things that don't add up in Christinanity and in the Bible.
