If we leave it cool for 1 1/2 hours it will then start and run as normal.

All good suggestions, but I would also check the resistance in the negative battery cable. If it is failing, it will act like a starter issue all day long.

It sounds as if your starter has had it. To be sure, just touch the connections on the starter solenoid to ground with a test light and somebody trying to start the car. Both terminals on the solenoid should have power to them when the switch is turned to start. If okay, the starter is humped.

sounds like things are bad in the starter and when it gets hot they wont work then when they cool off it does.

is the solenoid on the starter or on the firewall?

if that is on the starter i would say more then likely that is the part that went bad on it.

we deal with the same thing on our race cars cause the solenoid is on the starters and the headers get so hot

we had to move the solenoid to the firewall
