I'm looking to get started in photography. I took a class in analog black and white a few years back and it was REALLY interesting. I think I had a knack for it besides my pictures always being slightly out of focus (damn eyes!).

I'm interested in a digital camera around 400 or 500 dollars that has a good amount of manual features =)

Check out the Pentax K100D. Prices on it should be dropping since Pentax has introduced the K100D Super and the K10D.

The K100D has Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body, is 6.1mp, and can use every Pentax K-mount lens ever made. The older lenses would be manual focus of course but you'll have the benefit of IS. Read a review of the camera at dpreviews.com.

The K100D Super adds "anti-dust" to keep the sensor clean. The K10D has 10mp and the "anti-dust" technology.

Avoid the K110D since it lacks IS.
