2Timothy 2:15 is good place to start. It is also noteworthy that the Lord Jesus held people accountable for their own knowledge (or lack thereof) of scripture. Protestants do not deny that some should teach while others should be taught. Nor do Protestants deny that many who claim to teach should actually let themselves be taught, but that is not the issue. When you read something on your own, be it a letter, a newspaper, or the bible you must practice some level of interpretation. The bible can be misunderstood and misused, but it is not the impossible labyrinth that Rome makes it out to be, especially when compared to the mountains of canon law that Rome has produced over the centuries. You tell me how we are supposed to understand all of that and still need Rome to understand something so relatively simple like the bible?

personal interpretation is just another way of saying I'm just going to pick and choose what I'm willing to believe and do. you like gay people well just don't read certain parts of the bible and your fine. and that is not OK by me or god. and i hate this, i hate the bible in general but I've still read every page. if more Christians did the same we wouldn't have this problem. and probably less Christians. but the idea of personal interpretation and interpretation in general is just bullshit made up by the Church. a lot of the stuff given up to interpretation is not up to interpretation. alot if it is very clear cut in the bible. back to the gay issue. some people interpret that god wants you to love gay people. but its not up to personal interpretation. it is very clear. in both new and old testaments gay people are to be put to death. and if you read it there is no question. what I'm really trying to say is that personal interpretation is a tool for people who have never read the bible who have there own beliefs and what to say that they coincide with the bible. even when they do not.

Interpretation is given by the Holy Spirit; we are however expected to check up on what everyone says.
This principle is clearly laid down in Acts 17 v 11 where the Bereans were commended for checking up on the Apostle Paul.

BIBLE IS BIBLE AND WHAT MAN SAYS BIBLE SAYS MAY NOT BE TRUE
2Tim.2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
GO FOR HAVING THE MIND OF CHRIST IS A BIG ORDER TO FILL
Philip.2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

You are free to intemperate as you please but there is a warning about interpretation -
Revelation 22
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

The bible is silent on that issue. God did offer to man "to reason with Him," "test Him," and be guided by the Holy Spirit. Paul also mentioned that "he is a Jew to Jews, a Gentile to Gentiles" in order to bring the gospel to them.
Personal interpretation is needed for personal response to the Word of God - life changing, personal devotions and reflections, and personal walk with the Spirit. When similar "personal interpretations" meet they tend to group together - a sociological thing.
God never intended to "personal interpretations" to disunite the Christians. As a matter of fact, Jesus prayed for unity of all believers after he goes back to heaven. Paul exhorted unity despite differences - whether they be Jew of Gentiles, Paul or Apollos...all one in Christ.
It's a result of human weakness - that despite knowing God thru Christ we remain hostage to our sinful nature (separation from the fellowship of created beings).
