I have a middle ear infection and a burst eardrum. There's a buzzing noise in my ear the whole time. Is that caused by the ear infection or the burst eardrum? If the noise isn't going away, does that mean the infection isn't clearing up?

Hello Frodo,

My advice is to bring it to the attention of your doctor who will probably refer you to an Audiologist for tests.

However, it sounds to that you may have develop a condition called Tinnitus. This shows up as a ringing or buzzing in the ear(s).

Having suffered from this condition for many years, I have learned to live with it and it does not encroach on my life too much any more.

Sometimes Tinnitus simply stays with you for the rest of your life, sometimes it goes as quickly as it came or it could come and go intermittently.

The condition can be brought on by several things. Your ear infection and eardrum problem are just two of them.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

It's more likely to be the ear drum causing the tinnitus.
I'm guessing that you already have seen a doctor on the basis of your diagnosis so you must be antibiotics for the infection - if you're not then you should see your GP.

Sounds like you still have infection there if it was a burst ear drum you will probably feel dizzy when standing .But whatever it is you need to go back to doctor.

Give it at least 1 week to 10 days, but be sure to see your doctor for a follow-up before flying.
