Actually, that would be very nice, especially if you can ask those attending to take a flower as a tribute to the deceased.
Even those who do not use it as a 'button hole' can hold it and feel part of the proceedings.
A lovely idea, very thoughtful and very touching.

A boutonniere is appropriate to be worn on the label of a dress jacket, for either a man or a lady. It is not appropriate to be pinned on a shirt or blouse, really.
An alternative, and perhaps something a bit more appropriate would be a single wrapped (the stem wrapped as a florist would do) flower as a memento of the memorial service. It would be best if these flowers were first part of an arrangement for the service, then used to give away to the guests afterwards.

you mean like the poppies and Forget-me-nots that they give for veterens and such? if so, i would say yes,especially if you could find some kind of black ones
