Coke- that's why they call it a rum and coke, or jack and coke. Pepsi is sweeter than coke. Most bars actually will turn down the syrup in Coke to make it even better in drinks.
if you want to do something kind of fun:
vanilla vodka and rootbeer- it makes a rootbeer float!!!
Cheers!!!

If you are wanting only a "taste test" ~ I would be inclined to say that it, merely, depends upon the tasters' personal preferences. The second part of your question, however, places forth the idea that you might be interested in knowing which one to use for a MIXER of some sort ~ which would be best to mix with different alcoholic ingredients or, perhaps, things like ice cream, usw. There again, it would hafta boil down {in the long run} to personal likes and dislikes {I, myself, prefer PEPSI over the COKE} but, in addition ~ it would depend upon, precisely, WHAT the item would be that was mixed with it. For example, TRADITIONALLY, rum is, generally, mixed with COKE; so, your question is, actually, only a PARTIAL one, at best.
