Sure you can! Animals respond more to tone anyway. Plus the dog will quickly learn it's new name.
Just think about all the shelter animals that are found as strays. No one knows their names so the shelters give them temporary names. And this could be anything from a young pup up to one 12 years old. Make the name whatever you want! :)

I think that if you start using both names togerther, she will associate the new name with herself. Like, if you want to change her name to Diana, call her "Griffy Diana" for a while, and then use the new name more and more and eventually drop the old name. I keep making up new nick names for my dog all the time. Not on purpose, just cause I like him. He now responds to a variety of names. Some of which I'm not very proud of...

Yes if you htink about it waht about these strays picked up and adopted out at shelters many don't have names.
If possible try to keep it close to the name she has but it will take time to get her use to teh new name and don't go back and forth as that will confuse her.
To train her to come to her name it's best to keep her on a leash so she can be "pulled" in as you say her name.

Yes you can change a dogs name but it would be easier on the dog and the owner to choose something that sounds very similar to the original name. Like Pookie to Cookie for example. But changing to something completely different is fine and eventually the dog will get used to it.

You can change a dog's name any time during there life IF you use consistent rewards. The older the dog the longer it will take. Patience and consistent rewards will condition the dog to a new name.

No, it's absolutely forbidden. There's a special rule against Puertorricans doing that. Sorry, but you don't want to be struck by lightning and have a zombie invasion, do you?

They don't care what you call them, new house, new family, new name, she'll get used to it.
Lots of dogs from rescues get new names, it's not unusual.

I agree with Wrey .. New home, new life, new name!
:) It's perfectly fine. Just repeatedly say her new name so she is used to it.
