How is it possible for people to live that long? Is the Bible correct about this especially since that our lifespan now, even with technology, is around 70 to 80 years. There are two possible explanations for the longevity of the early people of Genesis. First, they were so close to the original genetic line of Adam and Eve, that there health was exceedingly great and so they could live this long. Second, it is noteworthy that the lifespan of people drastically shortens after Noah's ark. The theory is that there was a covering over the earth, a canopy of water vapor that helped shield the earth of harmful cosmic rays. The Bible tells us that the firmament opened up and it rained for 40 days, covering the earth. There is no biblical account of rain prior to this time. Therefore, some theologians believe that after the flood, after the rain fell and the atmosphere lost a lot of its protective qualities, then the lifespan humans was drastically shortened

I agree with Silver....if you consider that Adam and Eve were created perfect with no genetic defects and a pre-flood world with much less or no solar radiation, it's quite possible that people lived to be 900 years old back then. If you look at the ages of people after the flood, they only lived to be 400 years old or less so something changed in the conditions of the earth after the flood. Moses was actually 120 years old when he died...Deuteronomy 34:7 As genetic defects and diseases increased over time, life spans had gradually reduced until very recent times with the advent of modern medicine and dietary improvements. Ben Franklin lived to be 84 years old in an age when most people did not see their 40th birthday.

Science tells us its true. Bible speaks of a firmirment above us in the sky. That is a sheet of water or ice. Science (NASA) tells us ice chunks are still in our sky. Plus science proves ice at this temperature (coldness of space) would actually be magnetic and keep itself up against the earths gravity, just like 2 magnets repelling.

Then look again at science at what happens if you encapsulate the earth in a shield of ice. One you alter the sun rays, UV content, radiation levels. Well fossils show us animals (dino's) and plants were huge back then. Well of course as science states this firmirment would of made the earth like one big oxygen chamber. In turn creating the large plants, large animals.

As dino's are just reptiles. And reptiles never stop growing for their life. So if a snake can grow to be 60 ft in the Amazon today w/o the firmirment and it only lives say 100 yrs. Imagine how big that snake would be living under the firmirment aka oxygen chamber, and then living to be 500 yrs old. That would be ONE BIG SNAKE. Or easily what most call sea serpents, eh?

Now the same applies to man. Being in an oxygen chamber life, eating food and such grown in an oxygen chamber world, then man would be healthy, live a long life and live many years as well. Specially since there were no chemicals and such around as we have today. Just the cleanliness of the earth then to now, makes then "eden".

Now what happened to that firmirment you might ask? Well that is where the 40 days of rain comes in from Noah's flood and the Ark. And thats another story.

I am thinking that maybe the People who wrote that stuff might have counted Seasons as years. Maybe they considered there to be 5 seasons in one of our years. Would make more sense. Of course living 900 years is more feasible than a lot of the other stuff in the Bible.

Yes, there are people who really believe Moses lived as long as it says in the Bible.

Yes, it could have been possible. Science can't prove or disprove everything.

Moses leaved 120 years
After Ark of Noah the age decreased to 70-80 years only.
Psalm 90:10
he length of our days is seventy years—
or eighty, if we have the strength;
yet their span is but trouble and sorrow,
for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

the genealogy in genesis 5 records the line of Godly descendants of adam – the line that would eventually produce the messiah. God possibly blessed this line with especially long life as a result of its Godliness and obedience. while this is a possible explanation, the bible nowhere specifically limits the long life-spans to the individuals mention in genesis chapter 5.

another factor to consider is that in the first few generations after creation, the human genetic code had not developed many defects. adam and eve were created perfect. they were surely highly resistant to diseases and illnesses. their descendants would have inherited these advantages, albeit to lesser degrees. over time, though, as a result of sin, the human genetic code became increasingly corrupted, and human beings became more and more susceptible to death and disease. this would have resulted in a drastically reduced lifespan.

back in those days they didn't live by the yearly calender we do now... it was completely different and shorter I think it had something to do with the sun measurements... so his age of 900 wasn't 900 in todays aging =o)
