does this mean they actively signal out and try to fail those recruits they dont think belong.

I go to bootcamp in January and I couldnt stand it if I didnt make it through bootcamp.

Marine Vets or marines currently serving please tell me how to be a good recruit, and any other advice you have for me.

Who are the bad recruits?
What are drill instructors looking for?
Can they fail you on a whim?

no they can't fail you just because they don't like you. what they WILL do is play head games to see if you really do have what it takes to be a Soldier/Sailor/Airman/Marine.

the bad recruits are the ones with the crappy attitudes and the divas who think they know it all. Keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open and ALWAYS put forth your very best effort, and you will be fine.

They let you enlist, right? That means they believe in you enough to give you a shot.

I'm an honorably discharged Army Vet. and trust me when I tell you that you need to rise above the insecurity you're feeling and just do your best.

Remember that in your heart beats the blood of your rebellious, patriotic founding American Fathers.

You're a citizen of the most powerful country on the planet Earth. With that kind of pedigree how the hell do you think that You are going to fail? You don't think that, because you swore an oath to protect and defend this American nation against all of its enemies both foreign and domestic.

Drill Instructors task isn't weeding out the week one's.
They're there to prepare you mentally & physically, teach you military history & survival, combat martial arts, weapons training, and team work. They are just there to make sure you DO PASS.
They will play mind and physical stress games though. Hey...it's only 12 out of 13 weeks of training. After that you're treated as a marine, a person for whatever term you choose.

When I was in boot camp...some of my friends that was weeded out
1) two had a heart problem
2) failed drug test
3) attempted suicide
4) perjury on taking exam (had someone else take the asvab)...he couldn't read.

Not one person quit. They did think about it a couple of times including me.

Goold Luck...and do look foward on it.

Basic, Basic, Basic==== Keep your ears and eyes opened and your MOUTH SHUT. That's basic. Then listen, learn, then use your brain.

I dont think that really applies anymore. The Armed Services are so desperate for recruits right now that they are laxing all former guidelines and allowing more and more unqualified recruits into the service.
