There are lots of things experts recommend. Like not drinking caffinated drinks a couple hours before bed. Not exercising close to bedtime. Going to bed at the same time every nite, even on weekends! Developing a going to bed routine (like taking a warm bath, drinking warm milk or tea, having a little snack, reading from a book in bed). Make your bedroom environment calm and relaxing. No bright lights. Play soft music.

Personally, I have trouble sleeping when I have a lot on my mind and I can't stop thinking about things. For me, I play vintage radio shows (they come in any genre, comedy, drama, sci-fi) at a soft level and instead of thinking of daily problems, I focus on the show, then I find I just drift off to sleep. Books on tape may do the same.
Good luck:-)

OMG!! BEEN DEALING WITH THIS SINCE I WAS 16 I"M 32 NOW!! In the beginning sominex and nytol helped. Afer pharmacy tech school i realized they are just benedryl...so if you havent tried that save yourself some $$ and buy bynadryl you get more for your $$. If you have insurance there are soo many options. I have used ambien, flurazepam, temazepam, and now i am on clonipine (anti anxiety~I think to much... typical aquarius!!) and doxepin 50mg 2 of each. Which is now starting not to work...so i've learned to take them only when i need em that way I can stock pile and take 3-4 tablets is i'm having a really bad night...which happens more then i'd like. good luck!

If you really have insomnia, this isnt going to cure it or anything but it does help.
I know people say it all the time but seriously, dont use the computer or watch tv an HOUR before you plan on going to bed.
I find that the TV is okay, but the computer. It will seriously help to not go on it before bed.
Its helped me a ton.
Hope that helps alittle.

Insomnia is often caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression or sometimes for no apparent reason. Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. Soak a tablespoon of mint leaves in a cup of water for an hour, drink every night. Check out http://useinfo-insomnia.blogspot.com/ for more info
