Okay, don't get insulted but i think i'm ready to share some stuff. God is like electricity, you can't see electricity but you know its there. And God helps me sleep peacefully at night. Praying for all of you. Everything in the bible is true anyway, what makes you guys think otherwise? Do some of you REALLY believe we came from monkeys? i mean us compared to monkeys, is so far. I'm only 11 but i've read alot of books. And once i almost stopped believing in God, i bought a book on evolution, i got so amazed with how we evolved from monkeys i thought, hey probably god didn't have to do anything with this anyway,. but i prayed first and realized it was the book that was wrong, not me. Do any of you know the story of the tower of babel? all of our ancestors thought they could reach heaven by building a tower. So god changed our languages and scattered us around the world. As time passed people stopped believing in God because he was no longer 'spoiling' us, he was teaching discipline.

I believe in Him because I am His creation and it is my desire to obey Him because of His love for me.

I simply feel no need to believe in deity, and as a model for life I've found theism (the belief in deity) to be highly counter-productive.
One of the biggest misconceptions about atheists is that we're just not knowlegeable about religion or never gave it an honest try, but nothing could be further from the truth. I very devoutly believed in deity at some point in my life.
But then as I moved out of my parents' place and got to learn more about the world, I realized that I had better explanations for human behavior, the physical world around me, complemplative moments of bliss, personal purpose, etc. I found "God" be more and more of an uncessary entity, as Occam's razor would say.
Again, this isn't to say that I don't have my share of emotional experiences, enriching moments in life, deep philosophical contemplations, sense of awe about the universe, etc. I just don't see what the notion of deity has to do with anything. For me, it just doesn't answer anything.

I used to have the faith to believe that God through his son Jesus could do anything. That through Him, mountains could be moved, sick could be healed, and great things could be done. I believed in Him without a doubt. Now, I don't. I know and believe that Jesus is my Lord and Savior and I believe that He is the only way to heaven.
I don't believe that He is all powerful and all loving anymore. 14 1/2 years of unanswered prayers about seizures & migraines, 5 years of unanswered prayers about my wife who has bipolar, years of pain and heartache, financial woes, and He never changed my sexual desires no matter how much I prayed, fasted, read the Bible, worshiped, programs I went to, therapy, medications, and groups I attended. I'm still bisexual, still have migraines and seizures, finances sometimes are rough, my wife is still a mess, and I have not seen any mountain move and none of those prayers have been answered.
So what is the point in believing in a great, awesome and holy God if He doesn't come through.

I don't believe in God because it is illogical to.
Their are so many Gods who merely reflect a culture's own image.
I was Catholic for 17 years and then spent about a year reading books on religion (written by believers and non-believers) then I realized that it really is completely idiotic to believe in god, let alone assume that the bible is written by him or that any of the events in it actually happened.

You sound like you are concerned about Tom Cruise, do you know him personally, We cannot make anyone believe we can only witness to them and let The Lord come into thier lives, Jesus went to the cross to save us, We plant the seed, and The Holy Spirit makes it flourish, we have to have faith and trust in The Lord, and never ever give up.

Because I realized at some point that my being a christian was based entirely on the fact that my family was christian. I've been told all my life to believe in god and never once felt it.
If you feel it, and it works for you I wouldnt discourage you to continue.

Why don't you believe in Zeus? This analogy applies perfectly to your god too. Any god for that matter.
Christians are atheists towards the vast majority of gods featured in human history. I just add one more to that list.

There's simply no tangible or empirical evidence that God exists. Everything attributed to God can be explained in other more logical ways.

Why do you believe in the God you believe in. Let me guess, because that is what you were raised to believe. Being told to believe in something doesn't seem like a valid reason to believe. If you were born in China, you would be a Buddhist.

The same reason you don't believe in other gods: the utter lack of evidence.
