Lead is a toxic material. when you handle bullets which have exposed lead, such as .22s, you get traces of the lead on your hands. If you do not wash your hands before eating, you can ingest tiny quantities of the lead. Lead can build up in your body to the point that it begins to cause you to have toxic symptoms.
In todays litigious society, all manufacturers are putting warning labels on any product that could pose a possible danger to the user. That is why you see such stupid warnings on products. As an example, when my daughter bought a hair dryer, there was a warning on the label telling the purchaser not to use this product in the shower.....well, duh! You recon? So, it's no surprise that manufacturers of cartridges put warnings on the package telling the purchaser of the danger of lead. They don't want someone using or misusing their product and then blaming them for getting lead poisoning and filing a law suit. Such stupid lawsuits add a considerable increase to the price of products.

There is lead in most bullets.
Lead is a heavy metal with dangerous effects if it gets inside your body--even at low speeds rather than being shot.
California, and maybe other states, have laws requiring labeling of products containing lead, or other known dangerous chemicals.

Almost ever bullet except for special (expensive) ones made for indoor ranges will contain some amount of lead.
22 bullets particularly are either all lead or have a thin plating of copper or brass over them.

It's a warning required by our government, and is stamped on every box of ammunition manufactured today.. It's because of the fact that lead dust can be breathed in when shooting lead bullets in an indoor range without proper air circulation, which even though these cases are rare.. it can cause lung cancer from breathing in the lead dust particles in large quantities.....

Am not a hunter but would guess the lead warning is so toddlers who find stray bullets don't try to eat them.

I think when you shoot a non-jacketed bullet out of a gun the fragments that get knocked off the bullet as it travels down the barrel can become airborn dust and can be inhaled.

Because the anti-everything lobby thinks hunters & gun enthusiasts stupid enough to chew on lead bullets unless they warn us not to...because if they convince enough people that bullets are dangerous even without being fired from a gun, they will be able to ban bullets, and then there will be no justification to keep guns lying around.....because the warning-label lawyer lobby is out of control and needs to be contracepted & prophylacted...

The majority of bullets are made out of lead.I guess they warn people so that no one trys to eat them. I can't say that I have ever had the urge to eat my ammunition, but I suppose someone has tried it before.

Because the EPA has decided that lead is a toxic substance (It is) so everything has to be labled! It's gonna be tough cause everything contains some lead. It's the most abundant metalic element on the planet !
