This is a serious question! I really don't know and I'm looking for statistics.

Personally I think that illegal aliens probably have a higher crime rate than the US average but not much higher when you account for income and geography.

If I was an illegal than I would try to be as honest as I could because I don't want any contact with the police or legal system if I can help it.

I think that is a reasonable attitude so I think that many illegals think the same too.

What do you think?

Well, for one EVERY ILLEGAL IS A CRIMINAL.

They are commiting crimes just by being here.

Here is some other info:

From the L.A. Times

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien
Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers
.
5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers
are Mexican nationals here illegally
.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles
are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

The Dark Side Of Illegal Immigration
In Biting the Hand That Feeds You, Congressman Steve King of Iowa noted:

What would the May 1, 2006, illegal immigration boycott look like without illegal immigration?

The lives of 12 U.S. citizens would be saved who otherwise would die a violent death at the hands of murderous illegal aliens each day.

Another 13 Americans would survive who are otherwise killed each day by uninsured drunk driving illegals.

There would be no one to smuggle across our southern border the heroin, marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamines, which plague the United States, reducing the U.S. supply of methamphetamines that day, by 80%.

Our hospital emergency rooms would not be flooded with everything from gunshot wounds, to anchor babies, to imported diseases, to hangnails, giving American citizens the day off from standing in line behind illegals.

Eight American children would not suffer the horror as victims of sex crimes.

I've seen studies that legal immigrants are less likely to commit crime than the native population (they are screened to come in, remember) and illegal immigrants are more likely to. However, the biggest problem is the revolving door and inability to trace those who do commit crime, which is why you see that average of 7 or 9 (I forget which) convictions per convicted illegal according to some FBI study or other.

People have been using borders to avoid accountability for crime since long before Butch Cassidy did. Those would never be let in legally, and we don't want them at all.

I would be all over the idea of figuring out what to do with the good sort here while securing our borders and cutting welfare type benefits (I'd even hold off on the school issue for a year or two) so long as we deported all gang members illegally here and all convicted criminals including DUI violators here.

DHS says 650,000 will be in our local jails and state prisons from which they are not deported, typically, this year alone. What do you think the immigration picture would look like if those were gone? When they aren't even going for that low hanging fruit, and AREN'T policing benefits, who are they kidding making big splashes with raids against the sort gainfully employed?

This needs a solution, but nothing they are doing makes me think they want one.

The real problem in getting factual stats on this subject is that there are really no accurate stats about it because some states/localities do not differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants. At least none that I have ever heard of.

That being said most independent studies do show LEGAL immigrants commit fewer crimes then the general populace. This is at least partially motivated by their desire to remain here and if convicted they may face deportation.

ILLEGAL immigrants however commit many crimes while local law enforcement agencies are prohibited from even asking their status due to politics. Thus a large number of crimes committed by illegals are reported as being perpetrated by an immigrant or citizen.

The open borders people love to state that IMMIGRANTS commit less crime then citizens but thats not the question now is it?

Being each time a illegal crosses or over stays their vistas, and then uses stolen or fraudulent documents, I would say between 12-20 million and more coming each day. Most illegals do not believe coming in it's self, is a crime, maybe a misdemeanor but a crime nevertheless, and then working with stolen or fraudulence document is a felony

No one knows for sure, since many types of crimes go unreported and unnoticed. How many woman get raped/? How many spouse beat their significant others????

legal Immigrants ingereal do more than their average amount of crimes. Illegal immigrants do more than the legal ones.

THere are many reasons behind it. One is the difference in culture. THey don't realize that it's illegal to do somethings in the US, or think that there values are better than our laws. I get annoyed at this, but I found Hispanics overwhelming steal fruits. Either from Farms or stripping someones personal trees. It took me a while to realize why Hispanics disporportionately commit this type of crime. (I am not saying Hispanics commit a higher percent of crime, but rather certain ethnic groups are more likely to commit one type of crime over another). Some Hispanics believe that land is common property. They believe the act of picking the fruit gives fruits its value, rather than owning the tree. Granted that they all know it's illegal , but the mindset is that it's not a big deal and our culture is wrong. Not all Hispanics seem to believe in this type of land ownership, because I see Hispanic goes the other way and strongly believe in Plantation mentality. Some countries are so corrupt that laws are not constistent, and people often ignore it, and they bring that attitude here.

SOme laws illegal immigrants break freely, but others are forced. SOme are force to go into prostitution, join a gang, or take part in the drug trade to pay off their debt to the coyote, snake head, or other human trafficker. Illegal immigrants are more likely to break other laws, because they willingly broke one already. It's a slippery slope. First they break or immigration law, and so they can't find a job, so they decide to break our law involving identity theft. I agree, since they are most likely poor, we need to take account of that, when we judge them.

Interesting that they didn't name the ambulance chaser.Suing that rancher would be the same as suing a home owner for not letting me rob his home. The rancher should be commended for protecting our border and his property.Maybe we do need a revolution as far as taking care of our land and start enforcing the law covering hiring illegals instead of citizens.I'm all for helping people but they should be legal whether they can contribute or not and there are a lot of who need jobs that are going to $8 an hour workers who don't belong here.

I suggest you buy, checkout or go to the book store and look up the chapters. The two books are Outrage by Dick Morris and How Satan turned America against God by William Grady. All I will tell you now is that 27% in federal pens are illegals. So that blows the "they don't do more than our criminals". How many in the federal pens, 300,000 and estimated in state jails another 300,000.
might go to dickmorris.com. Don't get me wrong they been coming here since America was formed and the employers now are taking advantage of some, but certainly not all as they get paid pretty good and no one pays FICA, work comp, etc. and screw our country. Wonder if the ilegal or employer had paid 1099 form if one bullet proof vest might have saved a life in Iraq. Take care.

Not very much most of them are in hiding from immigration.

The Department of Justice, documents that there are 2,245,189 incarcerated in Federal, States, and local jails.

Human Rights Watch Backgrounder States;

State and Federal Prison Population

Black...43.91%.... Hispanic...18.26% ...., White...34.72%Other..3.11%

The percentage of Hispanics at 18.26% of the total 2,245,189, is 409,971 and that figure includes all hispanics in the U.S. American born Citizens, legal immigrants and the Undocumented. of all Hispanic nationalities, Cuban, Peru Columbia , Mexico etc of the rest of hispanics.

As a result the number of undocumented that commit crimes is very low.

The usual searches turn up contradictory information, predictably. The consensus from the first 2 credible (i.e. non blog) sources on the search criteria

us "illegal immigrant" crime statistics

turns up these, which basically state that illegals (aside from their being illegal of course) commit as much/little crime as the normal legal population.

Reference 1

"A study published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has discovered that while property-related crime rates have not been affected by increased immigration (both legal and illegal), in border counties there is a significant positive correlation between illegal immigration and violent crime. [53] However, crime rates from 1994 to 2005 have declined slightly, despite the fact that both legal and illegal immigration have increased.[54][55] Robert Sampson, Professor in Social Sciences at Harvard University, writes in Harvard Magazine in 2006 that being in the country illegally gives illegal aliens an "extra incentive to keep a clean record and not commit crimes, in order to avoid deportation""

Reference 2

"Last year, a national poll indicated that a third of all Americans believe immigrants significantly increase the crime rate.
The perception is that, yes, they are: the truth is, no one is keeping track.
And the only statistics available that single out the immigration status of defendants and criminals — prison and jail populations, and felonies prosecuted in the county — suggest that illegal immigrants commit crimes at a rate virtually proportionate to their numbers in the general population."
