Ideally, tattoos aren't just pictures slapped on your skin. They integrate with you, move with you.
The back is a perfectly good place to put art, if it is to become part of you. It is a large canvas, with smooth, uninterupted lines.

Getting a tattoo is a matter of finding the perfect piece and the perfect place for it.
Some tattoos look truly amazing framed against a large area of skin, like a flower on a shoulderblade. They are striking because they are delicate pieces accentuating the body they are on.
Other tattoos are simply too large to put anywhere else and have the same impact. My back is taken up by a large stained glass window that just would not suit me in a smaller size. Often backs are used to hold whole scenes.
As a last note, it isnt that hard to see your own back. You only need a large mirror and a small one to see the whole thing at once. Stand with your back to the big mirror and look into the small mirror. TADA with enough angleing you will be able to easily gaze upon your whole back.

well then what's the point of wearing makeup or having a nice haircut? if you can only see it when you look in the mirror what's the point?
i have my whole back tattooed and i love it, i look at it every day and it makes me smile. the fact is that the back is a great large canvas that is perfect for a large cohesive piece. i guess some people just don't understand, not all art has to be functional or easily accessible.

Because it is a good place to get it if you want to hide it.
Anywhere else could be hard, if you don't want to wear pants or long sleeves.
If you really like it then that's your choice of where to place it. Some people might just like that spot.
And sometimes it just a better place for certain tattoos.
I have one on my back, on the side and I can see it fine.
And I mean I would rather other people see it, I don't really want to look at my tattoo every day even though I do love it.

Some people get them on their back so that they are not easily seen by everyone. Some jobs won't hire you if you have ink showing...it does not look professional. I have one on my lower back it is a smiley face with wings and a halo and says kiss an smile above my buttox. It represents my sense of humor and attitude. The back also gives a more usable blank canvas without going near sensitive areas!!

I have a full back piece and em dam proud of it. My medical doctor said if she was a man and had one like mine she would go around without a shirt all the time. And she don't really like tattoos.

You answered it yourself.
If it's on your back your rarely see it so when you do it's kinda like seeing an old friend.
I've never met anyone who didn't get used to their tattoo very quickly. You stop noticing it.

Whats the point in getting a tattoo in general? "Because you want to". Get one on your back, your face, your freakin tongue lmao its your body not mine. People modify there bodies for there own enjoyment because they can. Not that deep of an answer but its not that complex of a question either. smiles...................

I guess the point is that everybody else can see it. I think many people get tattoos to represent themselves, so maybe it's less important for them to be able to see it.

it might have something to do with that your back is a blank canvas and some people(my self included) just need to add color.and if you have to ask;you'll never understand!
