Depends on the 38 year old. Ask a better question like "What have I always wanted to do?" chances are there's a job out there that's just up your alley.

If you have a skill and a decent presentation of yourself , it shouldn't be too hard. Or if you are a good learner and have determination - in the case of going for a job that you don't have experience in. I think many employers like to hire people who aren't too young. Depends on the job you are trying for. I have a friend that says you cant really trust anybody until they are 30. There may be more than humor in that.
Remember: Resume and letters of reference are a must if possible. And be confident but not cocky.

I'm 37. I landed a job earlier this year at a Fortune 500 company. You've provided few details. Tell us more.

Possibility is very high!
But I would not give you a job even if I was desperate for an employee. How can you get a job when you do not know what you want to do? Your age has nothing to do with it!

What job are you trying to land? If it's high school prom queen, your chances are fairly nil. If your looking for a job you're qualified for, you might find a better chance at succeeding.

Why do you ask, does something happen after you turn 38?

The same as anyone else with your education, life experience and job history.
Have you never worked before?
