By "wont let you go" I assume they are paying for college. If you want to go there then take out the loans and pay for it yourself. They cant stop you.

You have to make your own decision on how you want to live your life as an educated adult. Some how you need to convince your parents that this is the best decision for you and they should support you in your educational development. If that doesn't work call the university counselor to help you in dealing with this. Your parents love you and it sounds like they want to protect you as much as they can but, they have to let you grow.

have your school councelor schedule an appointment with them to talk about the importance of the college/ program of your choise- although I know 5 people who have moved back after one year at a university on the other side of the country- so its probalby safer to stay within state at least until you get your undergrad and get situated- your first year is the hardest. good luck

If they are paying, they control the purse strings. If you choose to pay or find the funding, you have total control over where you want to go. It doesn't mean they will support your decision, but at 18, you are the adult in your life. Good luck.

Tell them this is a natural process of maturation. You need to move away to become an adult.
Focus on the pros of the college.
Promise to visit at Thanksgiving and Xmas. (Don't promise Spring Break/Easter or summer holiday!

take a tour of the college with them, explain why you want to go there instead of a college near your home.

A college campus is about as lively as a cemetery on the weekends.
