Once you applied on line.. you should have called him.
If you haven't called him yet.. then call him ASAP... remind him of who you are, and let him know that you have already applied on line and ask him if he's been able to review it yet.
Let the conversation go from there.

Since he gave you his card, by all means contact him.
Send him an e-mail first. Remind him about your conversation. You can mention the job offer you've just received and emphasize that you would much prefer to join his staff. Just be brief and sincere.
If you don't hear from him within 24 hours, call him. If after two days you don't hear from him, accept the other position -- they're not going to wait forever.
And if you accept the other position and the gentleman finally contacts you, follow through with the interview. I certainly don't advocate yo-yo'ing, but even if you start the lesser job and work there a few days, there's nothing wrong with resigning to accept the better job. They won't be thrilled, but sometimes we have to put ourselves first.
Trust me, many people have been in your shoes.

If you truly have another offer, you need to tell him so that he can act appropriately if he indeed is interested in hiring you.
Just be honest! Remind him that you met at the job fair. Be sure to state something unique you spoke about so that he remembers *you.* Tell him that you are *very* interested in working in the particular hospital and unit and give him the reason why. And then simply tell him that you do have an offer and want to take it if he won't be hiring you.
If you don't have another offer, do all except the last step!

I think that if it's been a week, it's time for you to contact him. I'd call him and tell him something like "Hi, I'm _____ and we met last week during XXX event..... I just wanted to confirm to you PERSONALLY (ok, over the phone) that I've already submitted my application online since you were so kind to offer to give a look to it, and I'm very much looking forward to being taken into consideration in your recruitment process"...... or something of the like.......... don't tell him about your other offer though, THAT might sound pushy and even fake just to put pressure on him.... don't mention it and see what he says. If he doesn't come back to you in a couple of days or so, then I guess he wasn't so interested after all. Hope this isn't the case. Good luck!!

Maybe you could just call and explain what you've said here. Something like:
"I'd really like to work for you, and I was wondering about the status of my application. I received another offer, but I'd rather work at your hospital if it's possible."
This will let them know that you're a loyal employee and can make you look better.

This is a really tough situation.
Sometimes it takes two weeks for response.
This is one of those "opportunity costs" decisions.
It would be appropriate to give the person a ring.
Just ask if there is still a position available (in your coolest voice) and see if you can schedule a meet.
You can take the second one and lose out on the first one.

Can you e-mail him? I would get in touch with him just to make sure that your online application was "accessible", "easy to find", whatever...or whether he needs additional information/documents from you.
I would call...but i'd rather e-mail. Give them a few days after that...if you dn't hear from him, than just let it go. You never know, if you call, you may find out he had a "family emergency" and hasn't been available....or something along those lines.
It's always good to touch base after talking with a prospect employer....after all, what do you REALLY have to lose?
Good Luck!

Call him, remind him who you are and that you filled out the online application as he requested, and that you are still interested in the job. Sometimes people get busy and a polite, no-confrontational reminder is okay.

you could call and ask to inquire about your application. If it's a place you REALLY want to work at you could tell them you've received another offer but you really want to wait to hear from them....then see what they say!
