Three of the preceeding four answerers are clueless and OBVIOUSLY have not been to Newburgh in the last five years. Yes, there ARE drugs and crime in Newburgh. But that's true of any city in this country. There's drugs and crime in Detroit. In Las Vegas. In Miami. In Des Moines. You get my point. And if you're looking for any kind of trouble, you WILL find it in Newburgh.

Newburgh is rich in history. There are buildings in this city that are older than the entire state of California. H*ll, I have TREES in my yard that are older than the state of California! If you're not a history buff, there's other things. If you want to go hiking, there's the United States Military Academy at West Point - which is less than 30 minutes' drive away. (There's boat cruises to their dock during the summer months) There is also Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain State Park within 40 minutes' drive. There's a newly refurbished area on the banks of the Hudson River that boasts some of the best restaurants in the area. (There's everything from pub food to sushi to Cuban to Italian, to steak and seafood - all within less than a 1/4 mile walk.) There are two custom motorcycle fabricators - the "famous" Orange County Choppers, and East Side Custom Choppers. You are fifteen minutes from the largest outlet mall east of the Misssissippi. (Woodbury Commons - which is 20 miles from the center of Newburgh.) You can drive into any one of three other states in less than one hour. (Danbury, CT is 45 minutes East, the Pennsylvania state line is 45 minutes west, and Paramus, NJ is 45 minutes south.) Some of the most expensive homes outside Manhattan are in Newburgh. There's a five mile stretch overlooking the river where the starting price on homes is 2 million dollars - those are the homes that only have an outdoor pool, not an indoor one, and no tennis court. Foreign dignataries attending conferences at the UN often stay at hotels in Newburgh when they don't want to be hassled in Manhattan. Several celebrities have ties to the Newburgh area.

That's Newburgh for ya-- It's just a small town.

Just about the only interesting things to see around there would be Orange County Choppers (I think they are nearby in Montgomery), and West Point (the U.S. Military Academy about 15 miles to the south). And if you are the outdoorsy type, Bear Mountain State Park (also further south).

The town part of Newburgh is alright. Nice homes, suburban feel. The city part....a whole OTHER story. Even though they are refurbishing the waterfront area, downtown Newburgh has a feel of the South Bronx! It shocked me that Upstate could be like that. Definitely stay away from the city part at night.

Newburgh is disgusting. A lot of fiends, drug dealers and poverty.
