if you sleep with your contacts in, is that bad?

It depends entirely on what contact lenses you wear. Different types are made of slightly different things which make each lens feel a little different. Some allow more oxygen to pass through to the eye, some are designed for dry eyes etc.

As a general rule, normal soft contacts should not be kept in your night overnight. You run the risk of corneal abrasions (from the eyelid rubbing against the contact) and you're starving your eye of oxygen. The occassional sleep should be ok, but I remember I used to feel like the contacts were glued to my eyes and it was most uncomfortable!

I now use extended wear contact lenses, meaning there is no peroblem sleeping in them. You can get either fortnightly or monthly lenses, you'll generally find them just a little more expensive than standards, but t\for the convenience I think its worth it.

If you do plan to sleep in your normal contacts, make sure you have some eye drops as your eyes will need them. But tis best avoided.

Yes it is bad. As the other poster mentioned it can cause permanent damage to your eyes. If you want to sleep in contacts than get the kind you CAN sleep in.

Yes, it is bad to sleep in your contacts. If you insist upon doing that then you need to switch over to a brand like focus night and day. they are fda approved for 30 day continuos wear. You could develop corneal ulcers from overwear and they are extremely painful. The repercussions are high when you do this. You are playing with your eyesight.

Hey! I have sixty eight contacts. They are all high-quality and I love all of them indivualy, I take my time to decide upon contacts, if I upload them then they're somehting speacial, have well questions or were exceptional ot me. I have a couple of blocked peers who've been nasty, despatched me emails I did not like ect. I recognize both recognize my contacts, am keen on them, theya re keen on me, or I have emailed them. Every touch has been high-quality thus far, I might so like o meet them in individual, becuase if they may be able to be this precise and vibrant on-line, I can't assume what they're like in individual. x

Yes, it is bad to sleep with your contact lenses in. My husband did that for many years and now he has to wear hard lenses instead of soft because of the damage he did to his eyes.

I would not. There is a kind, that you can sleep in, but I would perfer to take mines out, and let them lay in the contact lens solution.

Your eyes need to breathe! Nothing will happen if you do it on occasion, but the risk of infection is definitly higher if you do. Don't do it every night! Your eyes WILL get infected. Small naps are fine, in fact, I take them myself. No worries! As soon as you wake up from sleeping with them on, put eyedrops in your eyes, so they aren't dry. And if you take them out in the morning, allow yourself to have them out of your eyes for about an hour or so, and you'll be good to go! But if you wear them constantly without taking them out for a long time, there's a risk of going blind. :( Good luck! Hope I helped!

from another answer: "Girl please. I've been wearing contacts for 8 years. I sleep in them all the time. Nothing has ever happened to my eyes. I wear Acuve 2"

MY FAVORITE RETORT!!!!! :

"girl, please. i havent changed the oil in my car for 8 years! nothing has ever happened. i drive a toyota celica."

lol i love that! seriously, just b/c you dont think you have symptoms doesnt mean you dont have damage. if you had corneal neovascularization from hypoxia, there would be NO SYMPTOMS AT ALL until it was way, way too late to fix.
