The Bible says "thou shall not kill" not "thou shall not kill only humans", so why do you have to kill poor helpless animals and eat them? They are God's creatures and should be treated with kindness and respect. Is that big, fat, thick juicy steak worth the price of spending all eternity in hell? Put down your guns and pray for forgiveness. Jesus loves you.

You need to make sure you take careful consideration and make better choices before making final decisions. Sometimes you need to consider the advise of your friends when they try to guide you in the right direction and not be so hard-headed with your feet firmly planted in the ground...because you could have been a winner if you would have taken a chance. We only look out for your best interests Alex...we don't like to see you with an "L" on your forehead...OK, sometimes we do.

Jesus was Jewish and therefore did not believe in hell. EDITED AT 6:14 Eastern 11/07/07 upon further research it appears that 1st century Jews may have believed in a form of Hades or some such.

Also, Terry T is right, the proper translation is "Thou shalt not MURDER"
Murder is defined by most sources as the intentional killing of another HUMAN BEING, often with aforethought.

I would add that justifiable homicide does not count as murder in most places so self defense is not against the ten commandments either.

Eating meat is supported by the Bible, starting with Genesis and going all the way into the new testament where Jesus says it's ok to eat formerly unclean animals.

There is nothing for us to pray for forgiveness for.

Alex, so now you are also a Bible expert? Actually what you are referring to is the Ten Commandments or the Decalogue as it was originally known. Decalogue means: The Ten Words. Guess what it says if it could be translated into English in just one word? NOmurder. So it does NOT include killing of animals. Remember the animal sacrifices in the temple? Since you are such a Bible expert you should also recall that Jesus in the New Testament changed the Mosaic Dietary Laws which forbade consumption of animals considered 'unclean.' Jesus said all animals put on Earth by God were clean and worthy of consumption provided that one said a blessing before eating.

Alex, do yourself a favor and find another soapbox to stand on and another 'cause' to rant and rave about. Hunters read the Bible too and apparantly we have a better understanding of it than you do.

I said it before and I will say it again.

I am really sick and tired of getting these stupid ranting and raving messages that are in the form of a question.
Man-kind has been hunting for years, decades, generations, centuries. People hunt for food. Most of the hunters today use the entire animal for something. I can feed a family of 7 meat all summer on two dear. It save a ton of money and it is tasty.
If you do not like hunting, fine. But stop coming into the hunting section to tell everyone and go off ranting about it. I do not go into the peta section and yell at them for bleeding hearts on God given meat.
Tolerance, Its killing our Country.

I am absolutley positive that Jesus loves me but thank you for reminding me. Please go back and re-read the passage that you have quoted. Refer to the oldest hebrrew texts and you will find that God was speaking specifically about killing innocent humans not animals. There are many many references in the Bible where God tells people to kill animals for various reasons including to eat.

The Bible is God's Owner's Manual for our lives and as such he is very specific in what he tells us. I don't imagine he wants us to interpret it in any manner that suits us. We are obligated to read exactly what he says and act accordingly.

I do pray for my forgiveness and shall continue to do so but not for killing animals to eat. That I do with a clear conscience and no fear of retribution from God.

I expect this in the religion and spirituality section. Not in the hunting section. I could give you many scripture on eating meat. But this one is sufficient.

1 Timothy 4:1-4 (King James Version)

1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

You didn't read enough of your bible did you? It also says that the birds and bees and all the other little creatures were put on earth for our convenience. Jesus was not a vegan you idiot. Remember he fed people with loaves and fishes. FISHES! GODS LITTLE CREATURES! Are you telling me Jesus is going to HELL?

Pride, that's your deadly sin. Presuming to be better than other people. Presuming to tell people how to live their lives.

JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED. That's in the bible. It's talking about YOU!

You are going straight to hell.

Dear bible scholar, Learn to translate the original text, and not Listen to the heathens such as PETA (worshipers of animals) and HSUS (Worshipers of money).
The original Text translates "You shall commit no MURDER?"

And if you are really using scripture to sanctify your nibbling of twigs and rocks then you would also know that the scripture tells us that God Changes Not. So explain to me the logic of an unchanging God telling His people not to kill ANYTHING and then telling them to go into a country and completely annihilate the inhabitants of that country, every man, woman, child AND ANIMAL.

Apparently you have learned just enough scripture to be dangerous. You need to read it front to back, daily year by year, then Maybe, Just Maybe you will gain Understanding.

What church or group of people do you belong to?
Is it that bunch of nutcases in Kansas?

Take a lesson in ancient Hebrew.
