I read two books by an athiest somalian author who was muslim until her early twenties. She explained what she and thousands of other women/girls like her went through in somalia, kenya, ethiopia, new holland etc as she grew up. She suffered abuse (physical, mental, verbal) torture, genital mutilation, no food, no shelter, loss of family, disease etc etc...now her and her family like thousands of other muslims suffer like this everyday so I want to know for these people who are putting all their faith in god. Why do they suffer like this? Some people bring bad fortune on to themselves but others are good people, wouldn't they be saved here and now rather than suffering on earth for their whole lives only to go to heaven which only possibly may or may not exist??
I am muslim and believe in god also but dont understand and wish someone could explain it to me. These series of books are true stories from the authors own eyes she is now working for a humanitarian cause to help these ppl!

Lots of bad and terrible things hap pend, it's not God's fault. It's the people who choose to do this awful things faults. There is a heaven, some people suffer more, way more than others. The ultimate prize will be to obtain eternal life in heaven. That is the place where there will never be any kind of suffering. We live in a world of good and evil people. One could just pray to God and believe in him always..

I basically asked myself the same question last night after watching "Born into Brothels".
Man that documentry was something else...
Anyway, I'm afraid the atheists who so bluntly answered "there is no god" are more than likely right.
And the sad fact of the matter is, some people just behave like retarded animals...Thats just what they do :\
They are aware of the wrongs that go about them in their daily life, but think they are only capable of so much.
They don't think they can make a difference because they are too weak themselves!
Most people who are worried about others only do one of 2 things.
1) complain about the issue in hopes that it'll cause "awareness".
Or
2) Pray to god & put it in all in "his" hands...
Meanwhile they sit on their fat asses lamenting about it to their friends over a hot meal or an Oreo cookie.
Yeah, a lot of help that'll do...
Anyways, I want to help. I really do.
I want to give these kids a solid foundation...
And I DON'T think that religion is the answer.
(certainly not the 3 major ones anyway)
*shudders*
I think when it all comes down to it, everyone has to have their own personal god to be happy.
They have to create one...
A horse has to have a horse god
&
A monkey has to have a monkey god.
Same old story.
Close the book.

When a society or commuinity doesn't appreciate the virtues of democracy, freedom, human rights ,and consider all these nobile values as western devil,it will face all the injustice and misery you have cleared.Regretfully,we attribute all our bad deeds to our Religion and thus, unknowingly,we also tarnish our religion,i think the problem isn't people's there, they are humans like other humans, the problem is in the Dogma shaping their conscienceand their way of thinking. It wrap their brains with obscurity &opqueness.

Everyone suffers. If she is an atheist, then she knows that there is no god, therefore no special reason for her suffering. No test, no punishment, just the randomness of her being born in Somalia. Many good people suffer and die. If there was a god, surely he would stop this. That no god intercedes proves there is no god.

I have found many believeable answers to those kind of questions. They seem to involve the idea of fairness and/or justice. Research the e-books Q&A with the Elohim.

They suffer because they believe, because they know that after they die they'll go somewhere better, heaven, or wherever. Because they know of the 'reward' that will be awarded to them later when they prove themselves worthy of it.

God is a merciful god. He wants us to learn and to grow. Their trials of suffering are there to help them learn to be self sufficient and to rely on him and themselves. They can be saved and God will show them mercy in the afterlife.

as a Christian I can only say that God created us but we decided to hate each other. the real question is why do people let this happen and not do anything about it?

God doesn't exist. These people are suffering in the here and now because other people are oppressing them, and they do nothing about it.
