Even speaking as an atheist myself, I can think of other hypothetical reasons why such a deity might not show up:
1) He doesn't have the ability to do so (you didn't say that God has to necessarily be omnipotent)
2) He does appear, but we don't have the physical means of detecting him
3) It takes a big effort for him to show himself, so he does it very sparingly. Maybe once every 5,000 years seems like a small time.
4) He's too busy attending to other things (moving comets around, visiting life on other planets, etc.)
5) He doesn't care about human affairs
6) Like a wildlife observer, he wants to observe without being seen, because he wants to witness the natural behavior (whether or not he had something to do with it in the first place)
7) He's an entity so far beyond human comprehension that the phrase "show up" doesn't apply. For example, maybe the deity isn't anthropomorphic at all. Just ask a pantheist.
I can think of others too. Hey, as long as we're working with vague definitions anyway, you're only limited to your imagination.
And no, I don't buy the claim that religions were specifically invented to control people. They were invented for PERSONAL means (spiritual expression, personal identity, explaining the physical world, etc.), but then at times became ideologies that were exploited FOR controlling people.

He did show up once. Ever heard of a guy named Jesus.
Even after He showed up and proved He was the Living God. people still didn't,t believe. Much like the people still wont today. If God came and talked to you right now you wouldn't,t believe. because He wouldn't be the leader the way you want Him to be.
But make no mistake, He is coming back someday, then every one will believe. Even you.
It's just that by then it will be too late for those who don't trust Him now.

He did come to the earth and He proved it. He was crucified by the very people He came to minister to, and then to "prove" He was God, rose again on the third day.
No one will knowingly go to their death for a lie that they know to be a lie. And yet all of the Apostles (except for John) died with the testimony of Jesus being risen from the dead on their lips. They were even offered an opportunity to recant, and live. But they knew in Whom they'd believed, and trusted a better reward awaited them.
During the Watergate scandal of the '70s, the conspirators could not keep their lie together for two weeks. None of them was threatened with death. The worse thing that could have happened was prison. And these guys began ratting each other out at the first sign of trouble. Not so with the Apostles.
God is real. He came to the earth to redeem us from the curse of sin. He would love for you to trust in Him based on the eyewitness testimony that has been left for you.

And tell me what would be the benefit of God showing Himself to the whole world? Do you really think that everyone would just up and change who they are and what they do? if you have never exercised faith then you have no idea what it can accomplish. God isn't here to entertain you. And trust me, my faith is not blind. Blind faith is an oxymoron. We all have faith in something. Most people just don't realize what that is. And if God just showed up to prove Himself, you would still come up with some reason why it's not Him. I'm sorry for whatever crushed your hopes and dreams in life.

God's non-existence isn't the only logical answer. Another logical answer is that God doesn't intend for everybody to believe in him.
All this talk about the supposed motivations of people who made up God or religion is irrelevent to the question of whether or not God exists. We can't discover whether God exists just by speculating about the motives of religious founders or leaders.

your runnning on the opinion that god is not already here. and off of the closeminded additude one might find in a cathloc priest (lol'').
my feelings on the matter:
i used to believe in no god. than after years of worldly studies i have come to realize that god is simpley one word used to discribe this one thing that is written about all over the world. in all times of the world. its always there. written about by men in many different languages.
in most of these texts the men's ego also decided to jump in on the page. so your not only getting devine guidence written, but also detremental guidence written.
as it was these books that were written by individual men, it should be the individual man (human , man or woman) that deciefers what word rings true and what word rings false.
trust your intuition.

He already did...and we killed Him...as well you cannot keep what you take by force or influence...He doesn`t come because we have to want to go to Him. Why would a God, a creator bow down to its creature? We all want God to do all the doing because we say so...we demand we ask we beg...not many say Your will be done, in your time according to your plan...we were made in God`s image but we try so hard to remake Him in ours...doesn`t work that way.

I read this Judaic book years ago about God. The topics were: Why doesn't he stop human suffering, why doesn't he show himself, etc.?
The main gist was he gave mankind freedom of choice. If we knew "For Sure" there was a judgment day, would we truly have freedom of choice?

I believe in Him too.
I also agree that if He showed Himself it would take the whole meaning of faith away from the religions. No point in them then, since everyone would know, and in a way, be forced to 'believe' in Him, be forced to obey.
