Ok, so to my knowledge, the crockpot is used for pot roast (large peice of meat?) and stews. Is that correct?

I'm new at the whole shopping thing, so where do I buy meat for pot roasting. Everytime I wander down the meat section, I never know what to get. Do I have to go to the guy to get it personally cut? (non pre-packaged?)

ANY help would be appreciated, thanks!!

trust me buy a chuck roast, baby red potatoes, celery, red and white pearl onions, baby carrots, all in the produce section except the meat. 1 package onion soup mix, 2 cans cream of mushroom soup, 2 bay leaves, 1/2 cup red wine ( optional) , and salt + pepper enough water to cover . it's a winner. good luck.

It probably should be pre-packaged. Wait and buy a roast on sale; they can get spendy. Watch the sale papers that come in the mail or in your newspaper. Get a chuck, rump, or round.

Easy Crockpot Beef Roast

1 chuck or rump Beef Roast (sized for your crockpot)
1/2 Cup of Water
1 Packet of Ranch Dressing Mix
1 Packet of Italian Dressing Mix
1 Packet of Brown Gravy Mix

Put roast in crockpot, pour water around the base. Sprinkle all 3 dry seasoning packets over roast. Cover and cook for 6-7 hours on low. Remove roast to cutting board and let sit 15 minutes; slice thinly across the grain (electric knife works best).

Well: There is a lot to say for the large cut of Beef, Pork, Lamb in a slow cooker. There are a lot of recipes for the less than large cuts.A good cook book can put these things in perspective. For Beef I find Chuck the prime cut, For pork I find Boston Butt my preference, and lamb , bone in leg (American) , Not Australian.which to me is much more (Gamey) If you can get Custom Cut meat you are in the right store! I advise only shop at a meat store and get to know the (Right People) They, in my experience won't steer you wrong
