I signed up for a plan with verizon residential a while back. i made my payments in full and on time every month with no problems. i had the plan for about 3 months or so before i got a bill in the mail saying i owed like $200 for internet service i "supposedly" haven't been paying for this whole time. they are telling me my past $70 monthly payments i had been making was JUST for phone service?!? NO! anyway, i changed my service to another company and called to cancel. the representative i spoke with said he saw the mistake and if i stayed with verizon, he would credit the account in full for the wrongful charges. but because i didn't stay with them, they would NOT credit my account. now they are trying to collect. the "collection representative" i spoke with said right now there would be no "consequences" but if i did not make payment, they would basically put this on my credit. i want to fight this crap. what should i do?

I just want to add....i don't mind paying my portion of the charges that were incurred, like any cancellation fees (which there should be none) and partial month charges. but i refuse to pay for unauthorized charges....

The best way to resolve this problem is call Verizon demanding to credit your account. Keep asking to be transferred to their boss until they agree to credit the account. Make sure you get that managers' name and direct # and ask what the credit # is

I would ask for a copy of your contract, terms and conditions with your signature on it that they must produce in order to hold you to them. I would ask for copies of all of the bills with the disputed charges if you have not done so along with a copy of their dispute resolution policies. This is just a start. If they can provide the signed copies that you agreed to the charges, terms, conditions, blah, blah then you can request some type of arbitration, while waiting on the copies you requested, get copies of all of your payments sent in whether it was electronic or checks lined out. I've had to do this with another company and even contacted their CEO and apparantly they got tired of my endless requests for copies, paperwork, etc in addition to endless phone calls because they went away. Always keep track of your calls, who you talked to, when, what was said, etc. These companies should not be allowed to get away with this type of things.

Go to your congressman's website, have your neighbor also do this and explain the situation, he will take it to the attorney general and place a complaint and believe me they will respond, had to do that with direct TV when they where harassing my son

Did you get any paperwork when you signed up? What does the paperwork say? Can you send them a copy of it?
