and your kids will do exactly as you say all the time they're under your roof? Or is it our house, and we'll work out things together?

*lol* I get a say in what happens around here? Ever tried reasoning with a 20 month old ;-)

Seriously though what I say goes BUT just because I want something to be a rule doesn't mean it will be a rule. I carefully choose what is really important to enforce and what isn't. If you are saying no and punishing all day every day then you aren't doing yourself or your kids any favours.

I mean I'd like my son not to pull books off the shelf and play with the DVD/CD players. But there are more important things -like not playing with lamps, hurting the dog, hitting me, etc.

As with most things, the correct answer lies somewhere in between the two choices.

At times, children should do exactly as told.

At other times, parents need to listen to the children and kindly guide them along life's path.

But that is just my humble opinion.

It's my house, but I'm open to suggestions or discuusion with my kids...especially if they feel strongly about something. If an arguement presented by one of my kids for something I was originally against makes sense, I will change my mind.

if you do not have a rebellious child it would be our house. when push comes to shove with a nasty kid, let's face it it is my house and they will live by my rules.

end of speech. in my house you do what you are supposed to do. if you don't like it get your own house and do whatever you want to in it!!!

They are your kids, you are not their's. They need to do exactly, as they are being told. I take care of them, they don't take care of me.

If you would have added more details to your question, maybe I could understand what the problem is, and I could have tried to help, you with it.

I don't do everything my parents tell me just some. You'd rarely find a kid that would do EVERYTHING a parent would tell them to do.
