They won't eat it.
And they don't get protein from bugs because they do not eat bugs either.
Pigeons eat seeds and grain, and the occasional bread and other small things like that people feed them. Bread isn't healthy for the birds, but they do love peanuts. Throw some raw meat out and watch some rabid meat eater come attack you :P
Okay not really...but you don't want to attract anything like that. So just stick to rice, bird seed, and peanuts. Pigeons love all of that and it's good for them too (and no the rice will not blow them up, that's an urban myth. if rice made them blow up, there'd be dead birds all across Asia).

lol, I think this question is a joke, but if it isn't... then my serious opinion is to feed them unsalted peanuts. They have protein and the pigeons love them. I once had 7 pigeons pecking at both of my hands for peanuts.
