Age has to matter...ESPECIALLY in matters of love because that's the time when our logic fails us the most; there has to be some protection for those who don't have the maturity or experience to make well-informed decisions. In most states, I believe the universally recognized age of legal consent (to enter into a sexual relationship) is 18. I am not sure how that number was decided upon...for some it won't be old enough; for others they're emotionally capable of handling "sex" a bit earlier. But the danger in age inequities is the potential to be exploited because of the unevenness of your stations in life. A 26 year old can vote, drink alcohol, come and go at will, and enter into contractual agreements legally...at 15 you can do none of those things, so if you were, say living with a 26 year old, you would be strongly compelled to do things his way at all times because you couldn't legally or financially take care of yourself. On the other hand, by the time you were 18, you could do most of those things on your own which would give you more autonomy (self-determination) in a relationship...it would be more equal. You'd still be at a disadvantage, but it would be better than it would be now. Once each person is a bona fide adult, then age matters less and less, but the goal is still to have as equal a relationship as possible...no one wants to be treated like a pet; and unconditional love will become a thing of the past once you leave your parents' home. If you don't understand fully what I'm talking about, it's okay...you're not supposed to yet. But that very fact is why the law is the way it is...to protect you.

I personally don't really think that age is that big of a deal. My first serious boyfriend was younger than me..There were some things that were a little difficult but we made it work, and our families supported us and were fine with it. If you love him and he loves you, then why does it matter? Now obviously if you're 18 dating like..a 14 year old then that's kinda weird, but otherwise who cares? Love is love, and it knows no boundaries.

age doesn't really matter..like 3 years older...but it starts to matter when there's a huge difference in age like say 14 years older than the other person..

I agree it shouldnt matter. However in some cases it can cause problems later on. I think it really depends on how big the age gap is?

Age shouldn't matter if your in love with sopmeone as long as both of you are minors or adults. Because society frowns on minor and an adult getting together

It shouldn't matter. As long as the 2 people are mature enough to make decisions.

Age shouldn't matter.
Look i've seen alot of people hurt just b/c their bf/gf said they were too young or too old.
I think its retarded, i mean what is age except a number telling you how long you have aged.
It doesnt tell how romantic, sweet, kool, awesome, or anything about you.
Well hope that helped some.
