From the modern Coca-Cola London Eye to the historic Tower of London, London has significantly to provide, see more with Hotelbye . In London you will also get the world-famous British Museum. British Museum displays the works of man from prehistoric to modern times, from across the world. Features are the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures and the mummies in the Ancient Egypt collection. Another destination for a see in London is the London's National Gallery, a big space full of Western European paintings from the 13th to the 19th centuries. In this gallery you will discover functions by owners such as for example Van Gogh, Da Vinci, Botticelli, Constable, Renoir, Titian and Stubbs. London is really a place where you can see the past and the more in exactly the same place.

If we ONLY had a Pound for every time we answer a question like this. This with a strange mixture of nouns and adjective is a new slant! Our country is officially "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". It is sometimes called "Britain" or The UK for short That is the island of Great Britain which is ENGLAND, WALES (my bit) to the west, and SCOTLAND, to the north, as well as the north western part of the island of Ireland which is NORTHERN IRELAND. Look at a map of EUROPE! We are all British citizens, although the nationalist minority in Northern Ireland, which tends to be educated apart etc, identifies very much with its Irishnesss, and people from that community tend to register as Irish citizens which all in the province are technically entitled to do. The majority in NI, however, does not even like to be called Irish and identifies equally strongly with its Britishness! The rest of the island of Ireland is The Irish Republic, another independent nation state within The European Union. So get this English people are British too, but not all British are English. OK? Non English British people are people like me from Wales, Scotland and NI. The capital of the UK and also England is London. In Edinburgh (Scot), Cardiff (Wal) and Belfast (NI) there are devolved administrations which handle affairs purely relating to those areas. England only matters are dealt with in the National Parliament in Westminster, London as are UK wide matters such as defence, foreign affairs etc... When you look at that map, I mentioned, you will see an island between England , Scotland and Northern Ireland and a group of islands to the south of the English Channel, just off the coast of France. These are "The Isle of Man" and "The Channel Islands" respectively. These are not technically part of the UK, but Crown Dependencies and not part of the EU. They are culturally British, they use the Pound Sterling currency and the people are full British citizens. These, along with the UK and the Republic of Ireland, form what is geographically known as either "The British Isles" or with respect to Irish people who are NOT British "The British and Irish Isles".

Wha's the difference between the United Kingdom, Great Britain, and England? Don't worry if you don't know, lots of people get confused by the three names. Here we take a look at the differences between them.
The United Kingdom

UK Map

The United Kingdom is in itself a country that is made up of England, Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland. It's official name is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". It has one government based in London and has one currency: the pound stirling (£). The UK is a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as the head of state. The capital city of the UK is London.
Great Britain

British Flag

Great Britain is an island which is made up of three counties: England, Scotland and Wales. Great Britain is the political term describing the political union of the kingdoms of England, Wales and Scotland made on 1 May, 1707. Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain.
England

English Flag

England is one of the four countries that make up the UK and one of the three that makes up Great Britain. England is the largest country in the UK with a population of 51 million. London is the capital of England.
Scotland

Scottish Flag

Scotland is in Great Britain. It shares a border with England, but it is not in England. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh. Scotland has a population of over 5 million. It was an independent country until it joined with England and Wales to form the UK in 1707. Although English is the language of Scotland there is also another official language called Scottish Gaelic which is much older than English. It was the original language of the area before English. Today only 58,000 people speak it. Although politically, Scotland is part of the UK it does have some independent political power.
Wales

Welsh Flag

Wales is in the west of Great Britain and is part of the UK. It has a population of 3 million. The capital city of Wales is Cardiff (It's where I come from! - Chris). People in Wales speak English and many people also speak Welsh which is very different and older than English. Street signs in Wales are written in both languages. Wales has been politically linked with England since 1542. Wales was an independent country until it was defeated by the English army. Wales has some independence in making it's own laws, but it is still very much part of the UK political system.
Northern Ireland

Northern Irish Flag

Northern Ireland is part of the UK, but it is not in Great Britain. Northern Ireland can be found in Ireland (which is the island to the west of Great Britain). The capital of NI is Belfast and it has a population of under 2 million. It became a part of the UK in 1921. Ireland is divided in two parts; NI is part of the UK while the Republic of Ireland, in the south, is an independent country with its own laws, government and currency (€). Although English is the most common language, there are also Irish speakers in NI.

Geez, so many wrong answers.

Irish is correct in saying that the official title is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the person is also correct that it does consist of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a country.

Irish is incorrect however in stating that Great Britain is England. Great Britain consist of England, Scotland and Wales and Great Britain is classed as an Island not a country.

London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom. In saying this each country in the United Kingdom also as their own seperate capital city. Northern Ireland (Belfast), Scotland (Edinburgh), Wales (Cardiff).

United Kingdom includes England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. England is below Scotland, and is basically the central heart of the U.K.. Even more central is London, which of course is the U.K.'s largest city, located in the southern part of England.

first, London is just a city in England. The UK, I believe, is comprised the countries of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales (I could be wrong about which countries are included...)
