She kept touching it, even though I asked her to stop, since my package is quite delicate, and if it's touched enough, some contents might come spewing out. Allow me to explain.
I was on the bus earlier today, and I was carrying with me a box that contained an old lamp that my aunt had just given to me. That is the package that I was referring to earlier in this post. She sat next to me and kept poking it and prodding it, wanting to what was inside. I told her it was a lamp. She wanted to see it, but by then, it was time for me to get off. She poked and prodded my package a few times while I was getting up and walking away.
Is there any real way to deal with a situation like this?

Seems like that old lady was a little bit senile. Just think, she is some-body's mom or granny. How sad to be bothersome to others. You did the right thing by putting up with the inconvenience of her silly bothering, for the duration of your bus ride. I am very sure not all people are so concerned or nice.

But, assuming this really happened, I'd say that you handled it well. The lamp didn't get broken and none of the contents came "spewing out." No harm, no foul.

Maybe the old lady had a form of dementia, and didn't even realize she was acting inappropriately. Sometimes you have to make allowances for folks of diminished mental capacities. Your best solution if this ever happens again, is to simply excuse yourself and change your seat on the bus.
