Does it make you think about what comes next, or do you feel there is nothing after this life? If you think there is nothing, how do you convince yourself that this is true?

note.....I just had 2 good friends die in the past 2 days.......

Angel P,
My condolences on your great loss; such a loss is a tragedy. Death, dear, is a part of life... here is an example: a tree is planted, that tree came from a seed...the seed came from the fruit of the tree...the tree came from a seed...it is the circle of life. Life is a flash in the pan, a twinkle of an eye and it is gone...gone from here, but I feel that anything that ever existed is never really gone, a part of it...love, friendship, memories, they all live in us and through us. Personally, I believe in life after death, I am a Christian and I know that heaven awaits for all those who have called upon the name of the Lord Jesus...maybe others too...I do not know, maybe it's not meant for us to know. Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, noone comes to the Father except through Me." I believe that, but I wonder about those who never had a chance to hear of Jesus...surely God's grace will abound. I work with death on a daily basis...I am a funeral director, and death affects each of us differently...I have seen people scream almost insanely...I have seen people laugh...I have seen people cry...I have seen people just sit there blankly and ask...why? I do not know why...noone really does...death happens to us all. I pray that God will ease your suffering during this time of loss...that He will show you His great love and comfort. My advice to you is to mourn...weep, it is part of the healing process...afterwards, laugh and remember all the good times you shared with your friends and share those memories with others...and live, live for God...each day is a gift, make the most of it. Plant seeds in the lives of others...paint a picture...write a poem...but know that you are loved. Bless you. Chris

I feel there is nothing after this life. I know this because the human mind is nothing more than the action of the neurological systems in a person, and once they're dead, those systems die too.

It doesn't take convincing, it takes critical evaluation of the available evidence.

I go to the funerals, I try to be there for other survivors, and then just get on with my life. I certainly won't be honoring their memory by dragging myself through the mud over their death.

It's OK to be sad about the death of a loved one. It's the appropriate response. One of the saddest things in life is that your loved ones will be taken from you by death. That is the price of admission to life.

But -- this is the point -- that sadness you feel is the price of having loved and heving been loved, which is the greatest joy in life. If you could give up love to avoid feeling pain, would you? I hope not.

Please accept my condolences on your loss.

Nobody knows what, if anything, happens after death, for the simple reason that nobody has ever come back to tell us about it. But I am as certain as I can be that once my heart ceases to beat and my brain dies, then I will be gone and that's all. This is not a tragedy; it's simply the law of nature, from which nothing is exempt.

I do not worry about death too much, but it does affect me. I realize that they are in God's hands now and I remember the good times.

I am sorry for your loss. I had one old teacher pass away about two weeks ago and two people at work pass away pretty close to each other this week. In fact ones funeral was today. It always harder during the Holidays.

Since August, 2 of my dear friends have died. I respond with a good deal of grief. As for an afterlife or whatever, I don't know. All I can do is to show caring for people while they are here with us. What may come later is not up to me.

Well usually I'm too numb and sad to even care for the time being...

"If you think there is nothing, how do you convince yourself that this is true?"

That makes no sense. If a person thinks there is nothing, then it's what they think. If someone had to convince themselves of it, then it's not really what they think, so why should they bother thinking it.

Beyond that, sorry to hear you lost more then one so quickly.

Thats life. Why should I worry, Christ defeated death. He won't be coming back as a little boy, I'll be along kicking some booty. May your friends rest in Peace.
