Well, it can be a challenge. I had a couple of whinner's in my small brood of 5 children. What I learned is simple but not always easy. You must be consistent. If you give in one time then it will take longer, because when you give in you encourage the whinning to go on. Start by asking the child to ask for what she wants in a normal tone of voice. When she whines tell her that you don't understand her whinning language. Whenever she asks for something properly reward her with praise and a hug and little extra. Whenever she whines she doesn't get it period! Don't give in until she asks for it proper. If it escallates into a temper tantrum then remove the child and inform her/him that they have chosen to have time out by thier behavior and that you will be glad for them to come back when they will act properly. I know it sounds simple, and I know that it is hard. Children whine because it works. When it no longer works then they stop whinning. Be sure to give plenty of praise and remain detatched and matter of fact.. Remember don't take anything personally and don't react emotionally. Good luck!

tell him until he stops whining you are not listening.and ignore him if he continues put him standing in a corner for a time out.if he still whines no treats or toys or TV.if he gets really bratty spank his but,do not beat him but let him know he is not the boss and his behavior will not be tolerated.you must teach your son to respect you and others and that what he wants is not the most important thing in the world and neither is he!!!nobody likes a bratty spoiled child nobody!!!

I guess I would suggest there be a consequence...everytime he/she whines. Sit them in time out...spank...whatever it is you do for punishment. My neice always wines and nobody does anything about it. She's 4. It's a behaviour issue. Eventually he/she will get the idea. Mine is only 4 months though...so thankfully I have a ways to go...maybe I'll come up with a new idea once she gets there.

you can't stop a 3 year from whining.
But you can ignore him everytime he whines. That way he''ll learn that whining can't give him what he wants.
