I work as a host once a week at local restaurant. I also work as an office manager full time, so being a host is just for fun. The last time I worked, we were on a very short wait, about 15 minutes. These 3 guys who were waiting were being very rude. They kept making fun of me and the other hosts by mocking me when I opened the door for people and mimicked our voices in a "valley girl" tone, which is nothing like how I speak. One guy was walking through the restaurant looking for a table as if I didn't know how to do my job. I was especially offended by this because these were adults. They weren't disrespectful teenagers, these guys should have known better. I shouldn't let it get to me, but I was baffled at how rude these men were and the fact that they assumed that because I'm a host, I'm also an idiot. We didn't make them wait very long, it was under the quoted time, so I felt their disrespect was completely unwarranted.

I hate when people are jackasses! It's so repulsive. Try to forget it but if it happens again I would let the manager know what is going on so he/she can take care of it. That was probably not only distracting to you but to the people at the restaurant as well. If I had been eating and these jerks were doing stuff like that my dinner would've been ruined!

I agree with Ladymont, being adults or kids, they should know better than to behave like animals. If I were there, I would have told the manager, and hope that he/she would kick them out. Where they making fun of you because you were a host? Another words, do they think they are better than you? I think that is so wrong... I hate people like that...

I think the answer is obvious...of course not! That is horrible behavior and, like you said, it is possibly expected of a teenager, but not of a middle aged man! I'm sorry you had to put up with that! That's working with the general public, I guess...you find great people and then you find awful people...I once worked at a record store and was hit on by this gross old man. He asked me to read all of the CD labels for him and then asked me on a date. When I said no...he asked if I could come over and teach him how to read!

When people act like that I always think they've had maybe one too many drinks. I would just ignore the boors, and go about your business. You are doing a legitimate job, and doing it well. They are being rude and obnoxious. If things get too much out of hand, tell your boss. Otherwise, consider the source -- they just have no manners and little intelligence to boot.

Again, back to people with no social skills. Some people never grow up, but if it makes you feel any better women notice guys acting like jerks and avoid them. They were probably all together because they couldn't get dates :)
Sorry you were the victim of Jerkification. They were probably drunk and definately stupid - be secure in the knowledge that your the superior man.

You know what....I think you ought to get over this. And if this job is just fun, let stuff like this roll off your back or don't act as a hostess anymore. You are dealing with the public, we are made up of all kinds and you got some goofy ones that night. Forget it.

In the restaurants where I've worked, that behavior would have been a first class ticket to the exit.
Why did you seat them? Just for future reference, you have all the power. It's your book and your restaurant. There's no way I would have given them a table!

As the host you have the right, in most situations to refuse service. You have to remember that you don't have to put up with that kind of behavior from anyone, no matter their age or status. You deserve respect and should have politely asked them to leave. Basically shape up or ship out.

They're a68holes. Don't take it to heart and don't measure how well you're doing your job by the behavior of a few morons.
