An allowance is given by parents to children. It's given so that the child may have some spending money. Much like a job pays you, except that the child is not working. Sometimes parents give an allowance as a reward for the child completing chores around the house. Hope that explains it.

Many parents, whose children are too young to work to make money give them a certain amount of money each period to spend on items they might need like fruit, lunch, refreshments and so on. This money is what we call an allowance which is given regularly to the child.

It's an allowance. Parents sometimes give their kids a bit of money every week called an "allowance", so that first, the kid can have some money and second, it teaches the kid about money (how to spend, and save...etc.).

"allowance" is money that parents give their children weekly or monthly.
It is usually just a few dollars, enough to teach the kids how to manage money.
Sometimes it is given freely, sometimes the children have to do work or chores to get it.
