Because apparently that's the message behind the "creationist museum" in Kentucky. Turning off my brain isn't really an option for me but I guess some of you can do it on a permanent basis.
If you don't believe me, here is an actual poster from the "museum" (I put the word museum in quotes here because REAL museums are supposed to present actual facts and evidence, not made up BS)

Enjoy!

Wow! Usually they are more subtle in their put down of rational thought.

Not all Christians interpret the holy books literally.
Therefore many Christians believe in Evolution and in God's Creation.
Only, they accept that God may have chosen Evolution as an effective tool for a permanent Creation process in the countless worlds in the Universe.

There are, fortunately or no, many different meanings to the word Creation.

It is the blind, literal and nonsensical adherence to Genesis that troubles me (and most with an IQ over about 70).

I can accept the idea that "God exists and caused these things to be. I don't know how He did it". 6 days, 6000 years ago though makes me scratch my head more than psoriasis.

Just because you cannot understand something does not make it a lie or wrong. Have you been to the museum? It presents actual facts. It presents the evolutionary perspective right next to the creationist perspective. Also the poster does not give the message you seem to claim. I see it more saying that human reasoning does not disprove God. Just because we cannot reason and explain God does not make Him any less real.

You would actually need to turn on your brain to believe in God. Faith without proof is much more difficult than belief with proof. As for the creationist museum, I could take it or leave it.

The poster clearly said that reason is against God.

The poster said nothing of the sort. You can believe and still "think". When learning more about the Christian faith, I constantly engage my brain.

I have recently begun studying Catholicism. With the exception of school, never have I read so much or done so much homework.

Well, its not that we turn off our brains. Its that we have a difference of opinion. There are several different views out there, ie, evolution, the big bang theory, creation, other religions, atheists, etc...I don't think any of us our turning our brains off. You say that you don't want to turn your mind off, that's great, nor do we. So how about we enlighten one another rather then putting each other down?

You dont have to check your brain at the door to be a creationist. You have a preconcieved idea ,( God does not exist), and therefore refuse to look objectively at the overwhelming evidence for intelligent design. I am really going to hate to have to say "I told you so " on the day that God says to you" Canadian Atheist, why is it that you did not listen to the truth that my servant Cap' Arlo and all my other servants on yahoo Answers when they repeatedly gave it to you and begged you to come to Christ?" There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth! In fact my heart greives for your soul even now. Oh alas poor man you are blind . I beg you, to consider carefully the possibilty that God created the heavens and the earth. I beg you to come to Christ. I want to see you in heaven , not on your knees begging God to not send you to hell. Oh come to Christ, come to Christ.

false. thinking differently is what makes you believe in God.
those people need to study the Bible some more because obviously God has a lot more to say than the five words they put on that poster.
